The Aftermath of Christmas.

Pigs of the world can breathe a collective sigh of relief. I swear I don't want to see a slice of ham again until at least April.

Christmas is done for another year. For the Pyjama family it was a day where we ran around like hairy goats trying to see everyone to keep them happy and then it was done in the blink of an eye. I think next year I might just hibernate out at home like a bear. However, Little P (who has that curious supermodel quality of being able to knock out an engaging smile the second I say"Cheese") had a bunch of fun on the actual day despite telling Father Christmas the week before he didn't "think much of Christmas ".

The big hit of the day was the almost life sized fire truck we bought him. Too bad it didn't come with some hunky firemen for his Bella.

My family continue to give me gag gifts. These will join Planet Cake on my recipe book holder so it looks like I can bake worth a damn. Perhaps one day in a moment of madness I will attempt to bake a recipe from one of these books.

My love of gorgeous hair was satisfied. My old GHD died several months ago and I couldn't justify the 300 buck price tag when I had another functional hair straightener worth $220. I know I sound vacuous and like a complete airhead. For all of you muttering "A hair straightener is just a hair straightener" that's simply not true and you obviously haven't experienced the sheer bliss of a GHD. I didn't just do a happy dance people, I practically danced a whole musical.

Mr. P almost did a wee when he got a Wii. He refused to believe it was an actual Wii until he'd opened the box and pulled everything out because Im the type of person that would cruelly stoop so low as to put a Christmas dustpan in a Wii box. The Wii was an investment in ensuring many happy hours of uninterrupted sewing for me .Worth every cent.

Christmas night was very relaxed and full of stupidity as evidenced by these photos of my sister doing a  Popeye impersonation.

(SOP,  if you're gonna post incriminating pictures of me on Facebook you better know I'm going to get payback)

We move on to Mother of Pyjamas doing jelly shots.

And deciding she didn't think they were all that.

but later actually believing she could sing like Barbra Streisand (so the jelly shot had it's desired effect)

My parents dancing after a few beverages. It was just like Dancing with the Stars but without the costumes. Or the official judges. Or the class.

And I laughed. A lot.

Boxing Day included moving slowly, a three hour nanna nap and letting my liver process several different kinds of alcohol. Thank you liver- you did an awesome job and I am eternally grateful.

We hosted a recovery dinner on Boxing Day. Thanks to Kirsten's recipes I had plenty to feed everyone.

Mini chicken salad croissants

These are spinach-less because my sister spat on all the spinach the night before being a cartoon character.

And a galette which is honestly the most idiot proof dessert I have ever made.

The day after the day after Christmas I woke with a burning desire to start my annual house clean out. That's where I pull everything from every cupboard in my whole house room by room and get rid of things that haven't seen the light of day since the last clean out. I started with my sewing room which used to look like this.

And now thanks to Ikea..looks like this

Wednesday night I tried to kill myself by eating a chocolate ball that had ground up almonds in it. I survived due to quick thinking and an epi-pen.

I hit the post Christmas sales and bought new bed linen. I cant help myself. That makes 7 quilt sets of bed linen I own ....

Mr. P looked very dubious about all that pink but tough cookies.

And this appeals to my minimalist nature.

I have spent the last three days entertaining Little P and having him "help "me. This is him pulling every pin out of every pincushion I own and putting them in a basket. The basket was subsequently emptied on the floor and then he got tired of  "helping".

I have listened to twinkle twinkle little star about 2385 times and have sung "galumph went the little green frog" (minus the sadistic verses ) at least 93 times. And I'm still trying to get the black sparkly nail polish off my cream ottoman but that's another story.

Enjoy your New Years Celebrations! I'm off to check out what you've all been up to while I've been held hostage by a 2 year old with a pin fetish.

PS. My Mum is so gonna kill me for those photos....

Sounds like a wonderful Christmas week! Minus the trying to kill yourself part of course - tut tut tut Shay - don't you KNOW we'd miss you dreadfully :)
And oh my - your sewing room looks AWESOME! Welcome to the Ikea sewing room club! haha
Now do you have any energy left over to enjoy it- that is the question!

Thanks for the lovely chuckle and images. I'm off to find SOP and friend her on FB now b/c I want to see those incrimnating photos! I'm convinced now, we were put on seperate sides of the planet b/c the world couldn't handle our families getting together. The craziness that would ensue...

Your family definitely knows how to put the "merry" in Christmas. We did have adult beverages at my in-laws, but thankfully no one felt like singing afterwards.

Your sewing room looks fab! Mine is still sporting it's holiday decorations of empty rolls of wrapping paper, unused gift tags and unrolled spools of ribbon (Kiddo was the last one to wrap her gifts). It will be picked up today.

Yup, your mum is going to kill you. But from our point of view it may well have been worth it!! Great Christmas up date and so pleased you and your liver survived!

It was nice knowing you - if your mom is anything like my mom, you are Dead Meat! You and I are definitely on the same wavelength - I got my kids a Wii for the very same reason! Enjoy New Years!

You've done it again, had me grinnin' like a fool at my computer. It was a long post, too, my cheeks hurt when I got to the bottom!
The Happiest of New Years to you and yours, sweet Shay!

I chuckled my way through this entire post. Looks like you all had tons of fun. Your mum knocking back that jelly shot is priceless, as is the singing like Barbra followup. Has the Wii been working its magic on Mr. P? We gotta do what we gotta do for that uninterrupted sewing time!

Sounds like a lovely time was had by all! I love that photo of SOP and the spinach. Hilarious.

Also, Mr. P is kind of hunky. I'll bet he'd kick any fireman's butt who came around.

And finally, why did I not know you're allergic to nuts? So glad there was an epi-pen handy.

P.S. Your hair is gorgeous! As are you.

We got a Wii from santa too, I thought it might get my little sister to stop cutting in on my sewing time but instead she made me bowl AND dance and it put my shoulder out. And she made the Mii of me have piggietails - I hadn't realised till then how often I'd been doing piggietails.

We made some jelly shots tonight, so if your mum wants some more, tell her to pop on over. We probably wont be singing any actual Barbara Streisand, just the "ooo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-barbara-striesand" song. The words are pretty easy though.

Hard to know where to start with all this Christmas wonderland, but I'll just say Little P is adorable, his Bella looks terrific with her perfectly straightened hair, and I love that your family goofs around a lot. We do that except without all the alcohol, though my dad did make cutoff gestures when my mom wanted more wine on Christmas night. Thanks for the laughs and now I'm jealous of both your sewing room Ikealand and bed linen jazz up.

Whoo hoooooo! Mrs P, your Christmas re-cap did NOT disappoint! I LOVE THIS! I laughed at everything! Evreything, I tell you! The photos of your momma, oh my. She's so cute, though, so she can't mind too much. The photo of your parents dancing is one for the books. How awesome.

Mr. P looks like he's 17. And I bet he acts like it with that Wii. Little P is going to LOVE that thing, too.

Your bedroom suits are just gorgeous, love the minimalist one. And the croussants - can you pass me one now? I'll be raiding Kirstin's site for them in a few minutes. New Years Day get-together at my house with Brett's family, I think I'll need to serve those.

I just heard a pig sigh. It must have read your blog.

Hope you get my email, and see my post - I'm a grateful gal, let me tell you...

Looks like a perfect amount of holiday mayhem! Love it all! Am taking a wee break from my own manic post-holiday clean out and that was just the laugh I needed. Back to the trenches.....

Happy new year!

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation eat your heart out... nothing compared to Christmas at Pyjamas Mansion - your sis and mam could well kill you but I'm sure they won't! Crikey, I hope you got all of those pins - remind me not to walk barefoot in your house!! So glad you had a hectic and happy Christmas Shay and all the best for 2012.

But he is a damn cute pin picker.
Looks like you've had a fun Christams, Shay. (How will you top that for New Year's Eve?)
Happy New Year - I know it comes earlier to you folk than to us in the US.

Wow what a fun time at Casa PJ's. Just popped over to FB to have a look. I can see why you posted the photo of SOP, bwah ha ha. I still think she got the better deal.
Love the photos of Pat. Tell her to let me know the details of your funeral so I can be there. Oh and as you were getting my fabric when I kick the bucket, can I please have your new Ikea cabinets they would definitely be very useful.
You'll need the rest of your seven weeks off to recover from this week.

Enjoyed the re-cap .. sounds like a crazy time. We didn't have so much crazy, just tons of people (well 13) but no jelly shots.

Love the new bed sets .. how can Mr. P possibly complain about those? they were on sale, they are beautiful, and besides he's got Wii.

Sorry to hear about the nut thing (or is it just almonds?).

BTW, you look great in the picture with MOP and SOP.

Sounds like an eventful Christmas including near death experiences, what more could you want. At least little P didn't bend every pin you own, that's what squid use to do at his age use to drive me nuts. In comparison our xmas was a very quiet affair and I have spent the last week sewing and trying to avoid chocolate and all things unhealthy with varying degrees of success.

rosie said...

Shay, you are such a writer!! Even made a near death experience funny!! I love that you trick people with boxes too! and your bed sheets are awesome..
Happy New Year...

Looks like a fun time was had by all! I'm amazed at your beautiful sewing roomness. It looks gorgeous. Mine is a mess compared to yours, but quite tidy compared to "after Christmas" previous years, so I am managing to sew in it! Hope you have a wonderful New Year celebration! (My New Year will be rung in in my sleep I think.)

Well that explains the pigs hiding under my couch...they knew they were safe in a house that doesn't do the ham/pork/bacon thing!
OMG how cute is Little P...even when "helping"...
Isn't IKEA the best...I love my IKEA'd sewing room...
Happy New Year...and may 2012 be totally fabulous...

I love the photos, Mrs. P. I'm glad you shared them. My favorite was the one of your parents dancing post jelly shots. Thanks for educating me re: hair straighteners. I had no idea...but I'm a lot more thankful than I was yesterday for my limp, baby fine hair. Love the bed linen, too. Little P is getting big! Happy New Years Pyjamas!

I think you'll be banned from having a camera at future family-get-togethers. Sounds like you had a fun, action packed Christmas!! Wishing you a 2012 that is just as much fun!

Rachaeldaisy said...

Ps, I'm jealous of your sewing room. Mine needs a good tidy up but when I go in there to tidy I end up sewing and create another layer of mess. Oh and I love your new sheets!! Tell Mr Pjs that pretty pink is good, I had a friend who would buy the brightest, colourful sheets she could find, her husband said they were so loud he couldn't sleep.

Brenda said...

My grandkids are obsessed with my pins also. Looks like you had lots of fun and your sewing room looks fantastic!
