When Good Projects Turn Bad

Here's this weekend's goss...

I'm still not feeling the love with the windmill quilt.  If my house was burning down I'd take the risk and grab  this quilt as I was running from the flames  just so I could chuck in the path of the oncoming fire. I forced myself to sew it today because WIP's hurt my feelings and I have three I'd like to get finished before the year ends. It would be so nice to start the new year with a clean quilting slate.

This week I added the border.

I was going to add a coloured  border after that but it seemed like a lot of work for something I'm not in love with and that I'm only finishing so I can cross it off my list. So I cut my losses...

I'm about half way through piecing the back ...

I made the  binding ..

My theory is that things are UFO's in the first place  because your inner self knows you don't like them. We should all listen to our inner voices. Unless they're telling you to kill people.

Miss P and I went op shopping Friday afternoon . Aside from some bargains for future crafty pursuits and a new pair of Eeyore pyjamas  I picked up this little gem...it had a twin that I resisted. It needs a decent clean which I'll get to... eventually. This photo really doesn't do the subtle  colours justice.

The sewing room is  finished. Creativity can start occurring again.

I found previously unseen Oreo's at the discount food store...I got so excited in the middle of the store, that people were ushering their small children away from me like I was  a crazy lady. I've finally found an oreo I dont like- Blueberry Icecream flavour. Blerk. Seriously disgusting. I think they got sent to Australia because nobody north of the equator likes them either.

And  you know when you get a great idea, and you plot and plan, and you research? You do the work and when it's time for the unveiling ...sometimes good craft projects and wickedly fabulous ideas just turn to shit. Such was the case with my window painted blackboard above the pantry door. The paint scratches off everytime I touch it with chalk which is a rather unfortunate thing for a chalkboard to do really....back to the drawing board for this project. I'm sure I can make it work.

And they were my weekend highlights. How was your weekend ?

P.S.  Mr. P picked up some work for next week. I'm doing the happy dance.

I think the quilt is lovely and once its all finished you will change your mind, i feel like that with most quilts i make too!

Sorry about your blackboard :(

The sewing room looks great. I like your windmill quilt, but if it's not working for you, best to get it off your table. I've only had it happen once that I didnt' like one of my quilts in progress, it was hard to make myself finish it.

Where is your new chair going to go? Is the fabric a brocade?

Congratulations on Mr P's picking up some work. Does this mean you can jump off the No Fabric wagon?

Yay Mr P! Excellent!

What is it with this clean quilting slate thing? Is it contagious? I have heard so many people talking about it lately. Some even planning out next year's quilts, but not starting them until the slate is clean. Well, WIP's don't really bother me. Unless I don't have a box to put them in I guess and, living across the road from Ikea, that's not really a problem! Of course, it could just be that you are bored with your WIP. Maybe you will like it more when it's done. I love the back you are working on!

Bummer about the blackboard. I think paint peeling off every time you write on it seriously detracts from it for sure. Hope you find a fix for it because it looks fantastic!

Love your op-shoppingness and the sewing room looks excellent too.

My weekend was... not too bad. Over now of course which seems pretty great cause I am tired and I have a new week stretching out before me which seems full of the possibilities that the weekend presented, but unfulfilled. So, goodbye weekend, hello week!

Mrs. P., that is a very quilt--but it's just not you. I can tell it's not singing to you. I had a top like that once started in a "surprise round-robin" (somebody else started our quilts for us), and I wound up with what I logically knew was a stunning quilt, but it just wasn't me. After fighting with it for years, I finally sold the top on e-bay.

What a cute little chair! Your sewing room looks so neat and tidy. I love the ladder as quilt rack.

I won't even discuss those oreos you mentioned. They sound disgusting.

Way to go Mr. P!

Blueberry ice cream Oreos? You are whacked for even buying such a thing. They sound sacrilegious!

The chair is interesting but I'd like to see what you do with it first and the quilt I just pretty. I'm not much on pastels either but I'll bet this would be a good gift for someone in your family.

That stinks about the chalkboard. It was A great idea.

The good thing about a quilt that you don't love is that someone else will love it. I think you need to hurry and finish it and give it away. It will make someone very happy. The chair is wonderful! Love the quilt ladder and those cookies.. ick!
Maybe your window needed a primer treatment before the chalk paint. Scrape it off and start over, it's a great idea! And your handwriting is fabulous, don't give up on it.

you're just begging for permanent houseguests, aren't you, by flaunting your sewing room all over the web? I like the windmill quilt. I just noticed that you are an Evanovich fan, too. Love her.

I'm not one for the pastels either, but the fabrics look so much nicer in the photo of the binding (I'm assuming it's all the same fabric right?) so maybe it's just the photos.

I always get a bit antsy with anything made from a single range, like I'm cheating, and then I feel all guilty, so I hide it.

But that's just me.

The sewing room looks GREAT! And there is nothing wrong with that quilt. Seriously. Unless it is some flaw one can only see in person. How about this - send it over the pond to me and I'll take a look at it. A nice long look. While i'm curles up under it on my couch.

I'm sure someone will love the windmill quilt - It looks lovely, though I'm not a pastel person either.

As to the Oreos - I've not seen those around here (above the equator) - perhaps they used Australia as a test market. They do look rather hideous.

It's pretty but a bit too pale, but once it is a REAL quilt (like Pinocchio became a REAL boy), and can be snuggled under and folded just so at the end of a bed, it will improve exponentially. Quilting always makes the quilt, they say.

Dear little chair!

Blueberry Oreos? Never heard of them. I agree with you about the import to your half of the world!

Sorry about the chalkboard paint. Did you put lots and lots of coats on? I hear that is the clue.

Congrats on Mr. P's employ.

I like the windmill quilt more now that the border is on, and the backing and binding look pretty good too. I know what you mean though, when you start making something you think is going to look fabulous and in reality it is just blerk! It's really hard to make yourself finish it, so good on you for persevering.
The sewing room looks fab, love the ladder displaying your quilts, and your new chair, can't wait to see the QIMP re-do on it.
Blueberry Ice cream Oreos, America's answer to Vegemite!!!!!!
A pity about the chalkboard paint because that is one seriously fabulous idea, I really hope you can fix the problem.

So the Oreo compnay is basically using Australia as an Oreo test market? You can all thank Australia because there is no way those Oreo's are going to rate here and north of the equator will be spare their awfulness...

Good morning Mrs P.....the chalkboard looks great...if the paint only peels when you write on it...don't write on it...well just leave the bit of writing that you have done already.....LOLOL...hows that for helpfulness? The pinwheel quilt is pretty...I am with Kris....as long as I have storage the WIPs don't worry me....have other things to think about....like what colour to stitch the latest stitchery in....will worry about where to put it when it's done....! Have a great week..your sewing room looks way too neat......great...but neat! I have to get into mine sometime today.....sometime....hopeuflly!

That is a very pretty, soft looking pinwheel quilt. I bet it's one that gets used regularly once its quilted, and I'm not talking about smothering fires.

Love the chair! And that cannot be your sewing room, it's too clean! Where are the piles of fabric and bags of junk lying around, blocking paths, and bits of fabric and thread strewn about? At the moment, mine looks like a bomb went off.

Congrats to Mr. P on getting some work!

I'm so happy for Mr P!! And for you -
is that cute chair going in your bedroom?
Your sewing room is so neat and clean - I am positive you'll be able to create in there!!

Those oreos look disgusting. Do you have "Newman's Own" in Australia? It's a natural company and they make oreo knockoffs - really yummy, but quite pricey.

My daughter is an Oreo connoseiur, and she never heard of those. When I asked her, she said, "that sounds really disgusting." My favorites (and the ones I absolutely won't buy) are the peanut butter.

I love the windmill quilt, and the chair.

Love the way your sewing room looks. Mine is looking like it's was hit by a bomb. I'm not a pastel person but I still like the Kashmir quilt, bet you'll love it once it's quilted.
Really love the chair.

I think the quilt looks better now the border is on - I love the look of all that binding there just waiting its turn.

Have a great week.

I just love seeing all of your projects and hearing about what's going on over (under?) there. It is so inspiring! I love your new sewing room/studio - enjoy messing it up making fun projects.

I love the new chair and it looks perfect in your nice and tidy sewing room!!!

I think UFO's stay that way because it like getting to the middle of climbing a hill.....still a long way to go up and too far to go back :-)

BTW the quilt is lovely, its just you which means it will be perfect for someone else ;-)

I think the pinwheel quilt is really lovely; but I agree that projects that you don't love have a tendency to become a UFO. My UFOs tend to be quilts that have had technical difficulties (like my currently challenge-- I'm picking out about 3 square feet of FMQ because of tension problems, so that is not going well at all. And it's in the way of me starting my Sea Monster quilt...

Found a home for that chair..just refurbish it in cream and gold and it will go beautifully in my bedroom (sobbing you found it before me) lol

Well, I love the pinwheel top. You've done a beautiful job despite not feeling the love yourself.

I love how beautifully organized and neat and tidy your sewing room is. Amazing. I love all the white furniture. White is good.

Love the chair. Love the sewing room. Love Windmills. But, if you aren't feeling it, fold it up and stash it away until some time that you do. Life is far too short to waste time working on projects you don't adore.

Good for Mr. P - perhaps you won't want to stab him in the eye for a short time.

I really like the quilt - perhaps because I am making a pinwheel quilt right now. Well, it is in the to do pile - that counts right.

I have been off the computer for a while because I had the baby home, so I have not accomplished much but spend time with her and Big. I will pick her up again in 2 weeks for the Christmas holidays.

By the way - I am in love with the chair and your clean, clean, clean sewing room!
