I'm back ...stupid freaking internet

I've spent the last couple of weeks in a place where the Internet doesn't work and it was a lot like the ninth circle of the bad place that I won't write for fear of offending people. (4 letters ,starts with H and ends in L)  We've been having these issues on and off for two months and assumed that it was the same issue as the previous three times.  It wasn't - because nothing in my life is ever that easily resolved. Not having Internet has really sucked the big one since the only way I could check my emails was through portable phone wifi to my iPad and down under that costs a freaking fortune. When I have been using it to check into Facebook or my email I've felt like a stealth ninja- in and out before anyone knew I was there.

So, I've been absent and idle too. Lots of laying about watching television, playing games (that don't require Internet) and trying to keep warm. Going to work, and being real life social and not doing much in the sewing department either. In fact I haven't touched my machine for about two weeks.

But that social stuff has taken up some time. It was my BIL's birthday the week before last and we went out for dinner to eat what was apparently authentic American food, although I'm not sure it was, since I always thought poutine was Canadian. (and this doesn't look like any poutine I've seen on the Internet) Feel free to weigh in here Canadians...

Last Friday was Mr. P's birthday, so as is tradition at Maison Pyjamas, we took off into town and had a mini vacation for the weekend.  Mr. P likes to shave 5 years off his actual number of advancing years and reminds me every birthday that he still feels 25. Give it up honey - you're 47.

Instead of birthday cake we hit up San Churro on the way to the hotel for a tasting platter because birthday cake is so 5 minutes ago.

We checked into the Crowne Plaza hotel right in the city centre which has amazing views all the way to the Adelaide Hills. And because they knew it was Mr. P's birthday we had complimentary wine, chocolates and a birthday card waiting for us on arrival. Nice touch !

Dinner for Mr. P's birthday was just the two of us at A Hereford Beefstouw. Aged steaks cooked to perfection.

And Gravad Lax Salmon which I hadn't tried before.

Saturday I indulged in a spot of shoe shopping...since my fave black boots died last week. It was necessary to honour their death by buying three new pairs because they were on sale.

Out to House of Chow, which is one of Adelaide's iconic Chinese restaurants on Saturday night for Mr. P's family birthday dinner where I massacred a baby spatchcock and only felt a little bit guilty.

And Sunday morning we hit up Krispy Kreme for breakfast and headed home to gorge out on donuts. I managed to sneak in a nanna nap in the afternoon.

I woke Monday morning with a mildly sore throat and went in to work only to come home early because I felt decidedly unwell.  I've cornered the market on tissue use on the last 24 hours and have taken today off to recover and dose up on Panadol. I woke at 1.30am last night to find myself laying in a pile of dog vomit on my bed only to have to change all the bed linen around an oblivious Mr. P....apparently he doesn't hear sobbing at 1.30am. Nor did he hear me crying when I found another pile of dog chuck in our entry hall and had to clean that up...this comes on the heels of the devil cat pissing in yet another one of my black handbags and on my Ipad cover Sunday night which just happened to be on my kitchen bench so I'm not feeling the love towards any of my fur children at the moment except the Orange Cat.

What I've learned from the last couple of weeks.

  • The world wont crumble if I don't have Internet - although it will feel a lot like it.
  • I am slightly completely dependent on the Internet for everything
  • I can go out three weekends in a row and apparently I won't turn into a pumpkin
  • All of my favourite moments involve food, and if I don't get a new hobby soon I'm going to end up the size of a house. I weighed myself yesterday and was frankly horrified.

P.S. Im going to try and get round to see what you've all been getting up to in my sorry internetless state but seriously trying to catch up on two weeks worth of posts is going to be near impossible....

Oh my...three weeks?!? I am thankful you survived as that is a tragedy! Looks like a great time away for a birthday, at least you weren't checking your phone or ipad so you can enjoy dinner too :). Love the blog selfies too!

Ha, ha, I'm sorry these things keep happening to you but man, you tell the story so well. Plus I feel like I've just eaten a 3 course meal when all I did was read this post.
I have the lurgy too at the moment so I sympathise with you. Thankfully no one has vomitted on my bed or defiled my handbag (they wouldn't want to, I keep everything in my handbag, I'd be ruined). Hope you're feeling better soon and Happy Birthday Mr P!!

Three weeks without internet sounds horrifying! I'm impressed you survived. I didn't realize you also had a devil cat (undoubtedly related to the one who lives at my house).

I don't know what poutine is, so if by American food you meant US, I'm guessing it's not. but on the other hand I've led a very sheltered life and might not know about it.

Birthday meals looked wonderful! Happy Birthday to Mr. P!

As, usual, your roundup of events makes me laugh! Happy birthdays to the males and I have never heard of poutine in my life. Glad your crying is over. I'm not feeling that fond of the animals around here either!

Looks like a lot of yummy food, poutine or not. (Never heard of it, so can't help) - and a great weekend.
I've now zippered my handbag shut!
Hope you feel better soon.

You guys really know how to celebrate a birthday big time! I missed your posts so I'm glad you are back online. Hope you feel better soon. I know for a fact that Krispy Kremes do not cause colds!

As a Canadian living in the US, I can tell you that Poutine is NOT and American food. It is actually French Canadian and that photo did not look anything like the Poutine I have had in Quebec!

Birthday wishes to Mr P! See, you can survive without internet even if it's difficult.......and no, that poutine doesn't look like anything I have seen in Canada either......

Missed you you are the only one who ever comments on my blog so feeling decidedly unloved lately lol. Hate to tell you but the krispys are probably the reason you got sick. Sugar hit like that suppresses your immune system happen to maestro all the time has a sugar binge and then he gets sick within 24 hour. The line was pretty bad last Thursday after work could see all the tragics lined up from down the road.

Yeah, so I can do about a week without internet, then I start climbing the walls, well done for managing a whole 3!

1 pair out, 3 pairs in seems like a good trade in in shoes to me...

I think Mr P needs to start sleeping with ALL the animals. In the spare room. With a locked door.

3 weeks without internet OMG,3 hours is too long! Dog vomit and cat pee sound above and beyond( thank goodness I don't have any pets, not sure that children count on that level). I'm with you on the food front ( and the shoes come to think of it!) I'm totally obsessed but without running a marathon every day then I think it has to be limited to high days and holidays( Mr P's birthday definitely counts as a high day!)

Perhaps you could take up jogging with the cat and dog so they could loose their bodily fluids somewhere else other then your house? Sorry you have been sick. Really glad you got the internet back in time for SL though, as no point feeling awful if you haven't got the internet to hang out with! You have to give up fabric dieting and take up food dieting my dear....unfortunately I am completely at a loss as how all this food dieting works successfully as I am allergic to exercise and addicted to sugar....but apparently there are also lots of unscrupulous people out there that are prepared to help you loose weight and cash, so I avoid it...that way I can buy more fabric!

I love my dog but if ever there was a case for euthanasia its dog vomit in your bed particularly when you're not well! Some sort of dog version of chicken soup perhaps? Yuck yuck yuckety yuck. What I have learned from this is that if you don't have internet for three weeks it makes you fat so i think you should never be without it again. Seems clear to me!

Hi there, I'm a casual visitor to your blog (for now, life is busy at the moment) and I'm from Iceland. I had a good laugh at myself when I started reading this post and really wondered what was so bad about HULL (England) until I realized what word it becomes if I replace U with E.

Thank you for this laugh and you have a wonderful blog.

PS. I would be seriously miffed with my pets too.

Happy Birthday Mr. P!
You two are a lovely couple.
I've never heard of the American dish. It does have a French/Canadian sound to it. Now that Steak and Fries does look American! (I'd have to have a taste to know for sure...)
I haven't had pets to clean-up after for 20 years now. Sounds awful. I'd get rid of the devil cat. That would teach it to mess with my purse.
So glad your Internet is up again. We've missed you!
Hugs

You haven't lost your touch. I've never laughed so hard before finishing my coffee ever. We are babysitting our Grand Dog and Lucky has throw up twice so far. Our kitty is in attack mode and it scares the poor giant dog. Hope you and your dog feel better soon.

Happy Birthday To Mr P. Love that photo of the 2 of you!! You guys sure know how to celebrate in style, especially by buying 3 pairs of new boots, for you :)
I don't know what I'd do if I was cut off entirely from the internet, my brain can't even comprehend it.

Poutine is Canadian, not that I am, but I've seen Tony Bourdain eat it on his travels there. Happy BD, Mr. P! Sorry you were out of internet contact for 3 weeks, but I enjoyed having a glimpse at your goings on during that time. I think I need a 3-week vacay from the internet so I can get stuff done!

No internet for 3 weeks would make me crazy! I mean, I gave up social media for a month...but to not have any internet access. Ouch!

Glad you're back up & running.
Happy Birthday, Mr. P! Looks like you had a fabulous celebration. Topping it off with Krispy Kreme seems an excellent notion. Will have to remember that when mine rolls around. :)

Happy Sunday, Shay!

3 weeks - ugh! 3 weeks of using the phone for wifi - how to give the telecommunications company a really good Christmas party!!! Love the birthday weekend tradition...especially you getting three pairs of boots...but maybe not the Krispy Kremes, yes I'm odd in that I can take or leave and if there was a queue, leave...
Hope you are feeling 100% better now and the disguisting fur residents have picked up their game...

Glad you're back and have been having fun with Mr. P and eating yummy things. Love your quilts, beautiful and colorful, just like I like quilts.

I am glad to see you are back on the internet. I have not been around your site for so long, that I hadn't even noticed! I am so glad you are back. Sounds like you had a wonderful few days!

Still trying to figure out who that sexy chick is in the photo with Mr P.
I think you should be buying three handbags to replace the contaminated one. How many lives does Moo have left?
Mordy must be an angel compared to the others.

I love all you food diary blogs and would be wholly disappointed if leafy salads replaced Krispy Kremes ;) As for that Poutine.....certainly Canadian (we have entire restaurants devoted to varieties of Poutine!) but that one looks piss poor....needs nice thick gravy hot enough to melt them cheese curds! And that is an Authentic Canadian Opinion.
