Redeemed by Rolls

I started my weekend with the best of intentions. Tidying of the sewing room and finishing the quilting on Mr. P's T-Shirt quilt were both on the agenda. Once those things were done I planned to move on to dragging out the triangle quilt and seeing if I could make some progress on that. With the whole weekend stretching ahead of me I felt confident, motivated and determined.

Friday morning I had an appointment and then met up for morning tea with the lovely Sue who blogs over at Mother Patchwork. It was our first meeting so I was on my best behaviour and didn't do anything to disgrace myself. I ate my cheesecake with a fork not my fingers , and managed not to swear (much). The best thing about meeting up with blog people is when they don't turn out to be axe murderers and Sue was just lovely.  I also managed to finally find the perfect handbag to match all my aqua /blue clothes and 3 new books at the bookshop. I think that was fate at work because I've been looking for a handbag in this colour for about a year. Isn't the bottom cute?

Later, I knocked it out of the park for dinner with my take on an open faced BLT with hash browns and avocado and tomato salsa.  I went to bed feeling all was right with the world and that my life totally rocked.

It all went a bit pear shaped on Saturday when the mood took me to go back to bed at 8.30 am after a mere 30 minutes of sewing(and not on the T-shirt quilt) Ostensibly I went back to chat with Mr. P who likes to lay in on weekends. The next thing I knew it was 11am, and I decided I was going to stay in bed all day, reading, playing on my Ipad, and chatting to Indy and Lola who decided to join me. So Saturday was a bust unless your definition of achievement  includes playing Hay Day and spending hours on Pinterest.

Sunday, I was distracted by shiny things. After a promising hour of Facetime sewing with Little Miss Sunshine (again on the postage stamp quilt- not the T-shirt quilt - that thing is destined to be a WIP forever ) I wandered off to do some really exciting things like washing, and a spot of grocery shopping. Then, completely out of the blue I decided to make cinnamon rolls. Kirsten posted a recipe she uses for these last year and I decided I'd procrastinated enough.

All was going swimmingly until the second rise when Lola decided to limp in holding one of her front paws up and crying. I'm sure Lola could have been more accommodating with the timing of her injury since we were just at the vet on Friday with three animals having annual checkups and vaccinations...plus I had rolls rising. It took about three minutes for me to decide we had to get her to the emergency vet. I figured the worst that could happen was that my rolls would rise to be the size of boulders and who doesn't love a massive bun?

An hour later Lola was dosed up to the eye balls with anti histamines and anti inflammatories having been bitten by "something" (probably something lethal like a bull ant for crying out loud) and my rolls went into the oven. And came out looking pretty darn fabulous. Voila!

After all that excitement I went and had a nanna nap for 4 hours on the couch. And the only thing I achieved for the weekend was to eat cinnamon rolls to excess. But they were bloody good !

Love it! Especially your comment about fellow bloggers not being axe murderers - ha! I think about that sometimes - meeting other bloggers, but I always worry they will be VERY disappointed meeting me, and they will be fabulous. Glad you had a relaxing weekend, and I would never even say I would make a t-shirt quilt, so kudos to you!

Sounds like you need a break from stuff on Saturday. Some weeks you do best by doing nothing. So this next week you should be unstoppable!

sounds like the perfect weekend to me! I have avoided cleaning up the sewing room by moving the sewing machine and current project(s) into the dining room...I tend to get side tracked when I try and clean up the sewing room....it's just too daunting to see all my "stuff".....but I really must devote a weekend to a clean up/out soon.......

First, that purse is all shades of awesome. Second, the rolls look entirely professional. Maybe they needed the extra rising time like you did your down time this weekend. See how that works out? Glad the pooch was okay. I don't even want to know what a bull ant is. Sounds terrifying!

Sounded like a pretty good weekend to me. You rested. You had some family time with Mr P !! You prepared and ate some great looking food. You shopped. You crafted. You attended to your housewifey stuff ( washing ??)You looked after your animals and you communicated with friends. Sounds like you covered most bases to me !!

Sounds like a fabulous weekend. the BLT and cinnamon buns look delicious. Great bag! How wonderful to meet a blog friend (and I'm so glad she wasn't an axe murderer).

I don't like when my weekends don't got as planned, but since that's about every weekend, I'm kind of used to it.

Glad to hear Lola's doing better.

That BLT with the lot looks delicious.
Cinnamon scrolls(or cinnamon anything really) are just the best and yours look like they have just the right amount of gooey, sticky fingered-ness.
Glad you got to enjoy a slow weekend.

Dang you bake with yeast, I am impressed! I thought I could bake until I watched the Great Oz Baking Competition and realised that being friends with yeast was essential. So very impressed with your rolls, particularly as you had a A&E visit in the middle!
My retail therapy extended to the Norwood bookshop also and then TWICE at the quilt show! I love the detail on your bag - you can swing that at my head next time I make a smart comment about your bag/shoe collection!
Great to meet you, next time we will stitch as well!

It's comforting knowing others get distracted from their to do list. I must say I'm tempted to be distracted into cinnamon rolls now... I love your new bag, it's smart to get one that looks good after too many cocktails. I'm glad Lola is okay, poor little sweetie.

Except for Lola, it sounds like a very good weekend to me. Love the bag, it's all kinds of awesome. You can send me some of those droolworthy cinnamon rolls next time you make them, thank you!

Oh, I hope Lola is OK. When you said she was limping, my first thought was that she'd gotten a thorn or something in her paw. I forgot you have lots of bitey creatures down there. Which leads me to wonder if a dog where bitten by those scary spiders whose name escapes me at the moment, but I'm sure you know the ones I'm talking about, would it be poisonous to them? I only wonder because dogs can eat a lot of things humans can't/won't and it doesn't make them sick. In any case, I'd be afraid to let the dogs and small children out doors for fear of being attacked by one of those bitey critters.

In happier thoughts, your cinnamon rolls turned out beautifully.

How's Lola? Poor girl!! Guess she's not allowed to have a cinnamon roll.

I just saw a recipe for cranberry-orange breakfast rolls. I think that might be right up my alley....I'm finding the traditional rolls a little sweet for my taste.

Can you sleep at night when you zonk out for four hours?

Oooh, those cinnamon rolls look yummy!

You have no sense of adventure when it comes to dining with axe murderers though...
