Yo Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum

The post title refers to what I should have done to cope with the week. I'm going to vent a little and then let it go. If you're not up for a pity party -look away now.

Work presented some curly situations this week that meant I put in a significant amount of extra hours and spent the whole time running round like a blue arsed fly. I like a challenge, think very clinically and clearly in a crisis and usually respond well to a certain amount of pressure but this week was ridiculous. By late yesterday afternoon I couldn't even hold a coherent conversation. I came home Friday night and drank 3/4 of a vodka cruiser and fell asleep due to exhaustion. My brain was just so tired.

I swear I'm never going to poke fun (in a blog post at least) at my poor cat again. I obviously tempted fate. I got home from work on Thursday night to find my bathroom looking like a scene from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and had to do a second emergency vet run. Poor cat had to be knocked out again, had half his side shaved (he's not happy about rocking a cat style mohawk let me tell you)and had all sorts of medical type stuff done to him again. I'm swear the vet had a twinkle in his eye when he told me how much it was going to cost. The bastard was probably thinking about that new Ferrari he's had his eye on. So Mordecai is currently weeing through a tube, is missing half his fur, has a bucket on his head, a bandage on his leg and every time I visit he's looking at me like I'm personally responsible for his misfortune. Dude- I just drove you there - risking a speeding fine - to save another one of your cat lives. Since you cant possibly have that many lives left due to your habit of sitting in the middle of the road and playing games with dogs 6 times your size, show a little freaking gratitude. While you're recuperating you have plenty of time to make me a thankyou card.

My house has finally hit the stage where it looks like a scene from "Hoarders". OK maybe it's not quite that bad but for Maison Pyjamas standards it's pretty revolting. There is crap (not real crap  - just mess) everywhere. I've lost my sanity not control of my bowels. Normally I'd share the mess with you to visually illustrate my point but it's so bad I'm fearful of being judged. There is still stuff on the dining room table from Monday and I'm struggling to find clean underpants. I hear you can turn your undies inside out for another wearing. If you've tried this feel free to privately email me to let me know your experience. I'm looking for ways to save time and money.

Understandably, all of this means absolutely no sewing happened here this week. The craftiest I got was artfully throwing things in a basket for a baby gift for a girl at work while I was simultaneously loading the dishwasher. But last week before the crap hit the fan,  I was on fire.

A ton of people I know are having babies. And even though I'm not planning to have any more of my own , I have no objection to other people having them because it means I get to make cute stuff. As far as I'm concerned you can never have enough bibs because one thing babies excel at is dribbling and spitting up on themselves. I think someone should create a Baby Olympics and have that as one of the events. Pooping in your pants could be another event. Crying could be another. Miss P would have taken gold for Australia in that event when she was a baby.

While I was sewing Mr. P announced that one of the girls at his work is also expecting so I just added some extras to my making pile. What's three more bibs when you're making approximately one bajillion - give or take?

Last weekend I put in a big effort to finish the selvage quilt.  A heap of people contributed selvages to the cause. To all those people (I have a list somewhere but do you think I can find it at the moment? ) Thankyou! This quilt truly felt like it may never get finished-even when I modified the size down to a large lap sized quilt.

I made the back out of old bread bags because that's what I reckon women would have done in years past when they were making a quilt that was all about utility. Plus I had a load of them laying around doing nothing much except taking up space and I hate to waste anything.

And I decided Mordecai needed a quilt since he manages to roll all over everything else I'm making so I cobbled this together from some questionable fabric I bought off the internet eons ago. It's wonky and hastily put together but sometimes that’s just the way things go.  So long as he isn't reading up how to be a cat quilt critic while he's on holiday at the vet I'm golden.

I'm off to start cleaning the house. Lucky, Lucky me !

Sometimes you're the windshield, sometimes you're the bug. I hope you win the lotto, and I hope you share with me!
Sorry, I'd help pick up at your house if I were there, how come only Momma sees the stress to the mess?
hugs, pokey

Poor, poor kitty! I hope your bazillion dollars spent, makes him all better. I am sure he will love the quilt very much. Your furniture might not make it though! He is going to be one mad kitty when he gets home!

I am off to find a glass of wine to drink in your honor! Hope it helps you feel better!

By the way, the string quilt is beautiful. I love them so much.

Oh my goodness. That qualifies as a rough week. Carry on with the drinking with my blessing!

So sorry to hear Mordecai is in the clink again. I hope he gets well soon!

You rock with the selvage quilt finish! I totally love it, both back and front, as well as the bright binding. And holy cow, with all the bibs! You know, I was thinking about making some of those for the last baby shower but decided it was too much work. Yours are completely awesome, and all unique!

Get some R&R this weekend. I'm about to have a cold brewski to make my mouth (and the rest of me) feel better and will raise a virtual toast to you!

OH man...I am laughing (WITH you!) because I have SO had weeks like that! Hope this weekend is fantastic!!

My son is quite familiar with the inside-out technique since I don't do his laundry and he's quite a forgetful lad. Sounds like Mr. Mordecai's been through the ringer. With his mohawk, maybe he needs a tattoo.

Poor Mordecai! I would keep a close eye on him if I were you, because he's probably plotting his revenge as we speak......sit down with a stiff drink, take a deep breath, try not to fall asleep, and repeat after me "tomorrow is another day".

If I had a week like you I would still be in the corner dribbling. Not making other people laugh. You need Hawaii big time!

Poor Mordecai and even poorer you ...(sorry, couldn't help it). Hope he pulls through, and hope he understands the concept of peace offerings because that is a cute quilt.
The selvage quilt is great!
Hope you get time to put your feet up this weekend.

OMG didn't know if I wanted to laugh (with you) or cry (for you), so I just took a couple of sips of wine and toasted you.

Pets - it sure makes taking yourself to the doctor and chemist cheap!!!!

Hope your weekend is better than the week has been. Louise

I liked the windscreen / bug comment up there first. That sounds about right to me. So sorry that this week you were the bug. Thinking of you (and admiring your intestinal fortitude - you gotta have that to tackle cleaning the house after the week you've had) and hoping you have a sweet Sunday!

Oh boy, hopefully Crises Center is moving out of your house this weekend. Poor kitty, once his ordeal is over and he sees his new quilt, I'm sure all will be forgotten (still I hide any favorite pillows for a few days once he get home).

Love the selvage quilt and the backing, very inspired.

I've not tried the inside out route, usually I resort to the cheapest package I can find at Walmart and call it good.

Eat lots of chocolate, it's good for the brain chemistry.

Some weeks are like that. By the time I got back to the hotel one night from work last week I couldn't take any more words. The waiter at dinner wad asking me questions and I just answered with yes/no and didn't know what I was saying as his words stopped making sense!
But it does eventually get better and you can get back to whatever insanity is normal for you!

Alcohol, chocolate and frog cakes are the answer to your crap week. Quiltygal's drugs might be helpful too. If I hadn't smoked all that crack last week, lol, I'd offer you some. Maybe you could use a couple of those bibs yourself if you end up dribbling in the corner.
Loving the string quilt and the excellent idea of using the bags as backing.
I hope Mordecai recovers soon and is eternally grateful for your quick thinking and emptied bank account. Poor boy.

I am always exhausted after reading your posts. Our 4 legged friends are worth it though. Love the bibs I wish I was as organised.

The selvege quilt looks great - love the backing! And lucky Mordecai, not just because you keep saving his life (and paying out the nose for it), but a quilt, too! Wow!

Mistea said...

great quilts you have been whipping up there between parting with all your hard earned for the life of a cat.
I didn't realise the lives saved by human intervention were part of the count. Mordecai will live forever.
Hope he is better and back home soon to enjoy his quilt.

First of all love the first comment and I am blatantly going to steal it and use on some whingers I know (not you) I think you deserve to get a free billboard to post your grievances on, truly! What a ghastly week you have had. Poor Mordi he must be wondering why he ever played on the wild side with that dog!!! Hope he is on the mend really soon...I wouldn't hold out for the Thank you card if I was you.Maybe a lot of sulking.
I adore your selvage quilt and the backing. It is gorgeous.
I wish you a much better upcoming week.
Hugs Michelle xx

As entertaining as ever, I have missed your blog! Poor Mordacai is in the wars isnt he...hope he is all better soon so you can get on with decluttering and get back to creating :-)

Shay, here's to hoping this week goes in an entirely new and immensely better direction! I love, your selvage quilt, and the bread bags on the back make it doubly fun! I've always wanted to do one, but I squeeze every bit out of my fabric, and by the time I were to try to stitch one selvage to another there would be nothing left. I hope your cat feels better soon. I can't imagine a poor kitty putting up with all of that. I'm sure they must have him on a sedative.

Oops. I spoke too soon about Mordecai getting better. I'm so sorry that he's not doing well and I'm sorry about the stress it is putting on you. I love the cat quilt. It is bright and cheerful!

Your string quilt is also very awesome! I love it! And those bibs are adorable. I think my favorite is the sock monkey bib.

I hope that Mordecai is improving.

Oh, Shay, I have missed you! How fun, how witty, how entertaining this post is! I got a much needed LOL out of "I've lost my sanity not control of my bowels."!

Nobody reads my posts lately because they lack all of the above. I need to move on from the angst and get my sense of humor back, and you're just the woman to help me find it again.

Love you,my Oz friend.

So nice to be back, checking out your blog, even though I am still so tired, I think it MUST be bedtime. The way I made that scallop quilt was to buy a KIT!! With the little scallop circles all cut out, then I cut them in half and glued them on the strips of white with a dot of glue, then sewed the strips together(pain, the scallop-y things were all floppy), then on went the borders and I quilted down the scallops when I quilted it. I bought it at a quilt party - like a tupperware party, but quilty - fun idea - super expensive stuff! So, I am giving this quilt away, so I don't get mad every time I remember how much it cost!

I think we need to go on a 'bender' (too much alcohol) together. I have had a week like too. It is 2pm in the afternoon here and I am still in my nightie in bed because I am so tired I can't be bothered doing anything useful in spite of the house looking like a tip and I have to go back to work later, so much for a Bank holiday weekend!!

Ok. don't tell anybody, but we had a holiday of 11 days, not 10 as I had planned, and yep, I turned an inside outer thing...not so bad as I didn't have need of the hospital...you know always wear clean nickers to the hospital...this whole month has been crazy for me and now you too....it must be a full moon month...looking forward to sewing up a storm soon too.
Poor poor kitty...and rich rich ver!
