Tears and Tantrums

The biggest tragedy of my week was accidentally washing my hair in anti -dandruff shampoo on Friday. I've been walking round looking like a scarecrow every since. Don't believe me ? Have a look at the result. Anti dandruff shampoo is just nasty!

In my own defence, I thought it was a 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner in a sample bottle because the writing was so tiny I couldn't read it without my glasses ,(and obviously refused to get out of the shower to put them on to read the teeny tiny bottle). Kirsty helpfully pointed out that it could have been worse, particularly if I had used Nair instead of anti dandruff shampoo.

Mr. P came up with an interesting solution to ensuring such an incident did not occur again in the future, because even regular sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner are getting increasingly hard to read without glasses (and who wears glasses in the shower?) He wandered off to the shops on Saturday and came back with these. That's right - they're bottles that are 4 times the size of the regular bottle on the right ...

Now I have to take up weight training so I have the strength to lift these damn things when I want to shampoo and condition my hair.

I had a finish of the quilty kind this weekend. You know when you have an idea and can't wait to get started on a new project? You cut and sew fabric and it comes together like a dream. It looks just like the vision  in your head and you can't wait to see it finished and snuggle under it. Your quilting comes together perfectly and the project looks fabulous. Yeah - well that wasn't this project in any way shape or form.

I'm afraid the triangle quilt and I were at odds with each other from the very start and our relationship degenerated into name calling and teary scenes along the way. I think I have referred to this quilt as the Mexican wave quilt once or twice because during the process of sewing it became quite fluted. I unpicked and re-sewed and points simply refused to match up despite my best efforts. In desperation, I halved the size of it mid way through putting the rows together just to be closer to a finish because I was So. Over. It. Smaller quilt does not = feeling more love. This is one seriously dodgy quilt - from the piecing to the quilting to the binding. Henceforth you are getting a long shot of it so you cant see how dodgily bad it is.

May I present to you the quilt I have now named "Craptastic". I couldn't even be bothered making it pretty for the photo shoot (why flog a dead horse?) ...I just kind of threw it on the lawn and snapped a shot. If I didn't have to have evidence for the FAL at Katy's this one may never have seen the light of day.

And in my final news for this week , Sister of Pyjamas is in the US at the moment. She's going to be travelling around the country for a while so if you see someone that looks like the girl on the far right and she's speaking with an Aussie accent go up and say hello. And she does have actual teeth although fear obviously sucked them back into her head somehow in this picture...

She is so going to kill me for posting that....

Your quilt will still be warm and snuggly, you know - it might even flatten itself out with use. Geez, I dunno.....I couldn't read which one said "Shampoo" and which one said "Conditioner", it would help if the labels were different colours. Careful with lifting those bottles, you don't want to get a hernia!

Definitely sounds like done is better than perfect fits this quilt perfectly. Congrats on the hard won finish! Now you get to go have fun with your new project.

Actually, you've kind of got the sexy bed hair thing going on there - some people pay a lot of money for that look.
You can apologise to your sister for that photo by sending her the triangle quilt!
I like that your husband went and bought shampoo for you, I think that's really sweet. Either that or he's trying to subtly tell you that you have tuck-shop lady arms!

Pretty sure you'll be off your sister's Christmas list with that photo! Glad you've got the triangular terror done and dusted. (You can always donate to Animal Welfare if you can't bear to look at it!)

Craptastic?! What a great name! I was LOL reading your post! I've had a few quilts that just gave no joy. I called one the yellow disaster. I didn't even get around to sandwich, quilt or bind. I donated the top to a guild and let them deal with the bugger!

At least your triangle quilt is finished. If only wavy edge quilts were admired for their flouncy ways. Maybe there should be a cateogory in the Bloggers Quilt Festival. Bad hair days are the worst. Good luck lifting those new bottles. Wouldn't it be fun if your sister got spotted as the Pyjama quilt lady's sister. Have you given her a list of fabrics you want?

I can't stop laughing. You write the most interesting post!! I think your quilt is more than craptastic....haha...it actually looks great to me. Triangles do not like me at all so I avoided the last triangle QAL.

Please don't drop the shampoo on your toes.

I got the big bottles with the pump dispenser so I don't need to lift them!
The triangles are pretty even if they didn't play nice. Great name you gave it.
Bet SOP is having too good of a time to be checking blogposts.
Time to start something new?

Thanks once again for a good giggle...hey this old lady did wear her glasses in the shower unknowingly and actually thought she had gone blind when they fogged up!! Good luck with the weight training. I love your perseverance with the triangles. It looks so pretty! I would have done a psycho with the scissors.

You are a bad sister and too hard on yourself. The quilt looks very pretty. What are you going to do with it? .
PS. I am writing this at Milan airport so a lot of people around me have seen your photo as it really cracked me up and I had to pass the iPad to Tony to show him too...with the explanation. Everyone now thinks all Aussie women have bad hairdos !( my hair looks pretty crappy today too ! )

Great post as always Shay. your quilt looks okay so don't stress. I have the same problem in the shower so we now have a dispenser with them in, shampoo on the right conditioner on the left. hugs......

I think your quilt looks quite fine. And you can count it as a 'finish' which is always a good thing. If you're stuck on giving it a derisive name, I vote for 'Crappy Cubed' ;)

Will be searching for your sister. Tell her she's more than welcome to stay w/us if she's in SC. And let her know she'd fit right in with all the other toothless wonders walking around in the South! ;)

You could pour some of the big bottles into your regular sized when it's empty, unless you like the idea of multitasking by lifting weight in the shower. It'd be more likely of me that I'd drop that big thing on a toe.

I quite like your triangles quilt! Once you put it over your lap, who cares if there's a crinkle here or there. The colors are lovely. Congrats in the finish!

At this angle your triangle quilt looks just right. Cut, Sew, Enjoy the finish. One less UFO!

I'll bet if your Sis killed you every time she should have, you'd be dead dozens of times already.

What is so wrong with curly hair?! Your a dag...just buy some fluro tape and stick a big strip to the bottle so you know which one is yours!
I have a quilt that is full of woops also, but yet to quilt it, wish me luck! Yours looks lovely, but I know how you feel when you fall out of love with a quilt. Give it away quick and focus on the next new thing.

I'm so sorry about your shampoo mishap! Bad hair days are the worst!

I LOVE your Mexican Wave Quilt. I'm sorry you two don't get along. Your fabrics are fabulous!

And I hope SOP is having a marvelous time. If you talk to her, tell her that if she gets to Utah, I'll show her around.

Shay that quilt is absolutely beautiful. I bet you are being too hard on yourself. Anyway I think it looks stunning. What a bummer about your shampoo mistake. As others say it could have been a lot worse. Its a real pain though trying to read things on bottles in the shower I know exactly what you mean. Not good when our eyes grow older when we are so young!! So sorry we didn't get to catch up at the weekend. Had a lovely time with Loz. Next time definitely and we will discuss some wine. xx

I smiled throughout this post ( as usual). I only use antidandruff shampoo but I have very fine hair and an itchy scalp. I like the 'come hither' look you managed to achieve! I hope you won't have to pay too dearly when SOP returns home...

Shay, you are a hoot! I had to start wearing contacts again I couldn't stand glasses for one more day. Why don't you just take a Sharpie and put a big identifying mark on your shampoo bottle.
Hopefully for sister will forgive you!

I have a three shelf corner unit thing in my shower. I have all the bottles organized by shelf so that I don't grab the body wash for my hair or dump conditioner onto my shower pouf. (I am old and have done that on more than one occasion!) Of course, this technique only works when one lives alone and no one else can mess up the system!

Only you, Shay, can make washing your hair a comedy show. LOL!!! Thanks for always making me laugh. And your quilt isn't bad at all! I have to tell you that I'm so impressed you finished! If I start something and end up hating it, it goes into the pile of 'maybe I'll rip it apart one day and reuse the fabric....'. I also LOVED the picture of your sister! LOVED it!!!! Has she sent you hate mail yet? LOL!!! xoxoo

Really enjoyed your post! Funny funny, and I can relate. I began hoarding those looking-glass magnifiers with the big handles, you know the ones old people read with while I was growing up - I keep them in every room of the house, stashed in drawers, on shelves - so handy!
