Let this be a lesson to all of us ....

Procrastination is bad.

I convinced myself I could finish  the Flying Dutchman quilt on Saturday because after all,  I had no plans for the day beyond banking the cheque for my poor dead car and we weren't due out to my nephew's birthday dinner until 7.30pm . Plenty of time to get my act together and finish this at a leisurely pace during the day right?

Until we got a phone call Friday night inviting us to my in laws for a retirement celebration lunch on Saturday. Two social activities in one day is unheard of around here . What's up with that ?

I figured I could still pull it off  because I had all of Friday night to get the binding finished, print the label, wash and dry the quilt and sew the label on.

I fell asleep on the lounge at 9pm...oops. Having. Done. Exactly. Nothing.

Guess what I was doing at 7.20 this morning? Furiously attaching binding that's what!

And at 4.20 pm this afternoon as I de-linted it and wrapped it in beautiful flocked wrapping paper I have never been so glad to finish a quilt in my life!

2/3rds of the front - this quilt is huge!
The back
I'm off to pretty myself up for the birthday party. The birthday boy better be suitably grateful!

Woo hoo, it looks absolutely fabulous and awesome. It's HUGE, how many beds are you hoping it will cover?
No wonder it took you so long, but you must be very very happy with it now that it's all finished. Love the racing stripe down the back.
Well done and congratulations on finishing it despite having a little snooze last night.
OMG the word verification is BEDISM

Way to go Shay! Flying Dutchman looks fabulous (and big). I hate it when best laid plans go haywire. But it's done, wrapped, and probably by this time unwrapped and admired by all.

Now you are free of the Flying Dutchman, you should indulge yourself with a very fun project.

God its huge - no wonder it took so long. He better enjoy it now, if not you can suffocate him in it!

Absolutely stunning, Shay! This is an incredible quilt. I can't believe the size. Just wonderful! I'm so impressed you got it done in time. Me? I still struggle with finishing...maybe subliminally I really don't want to give any of my creations away? :o)

I was fully expecting you to say "wrapped it in beautiful flocked wrapping paper... which immediately re-linted the whole damn thing"

I hope it didn't.

Yowers! Down the the wire! Way to get 'er done, you Drama Queen ;) It looks fabulous! I am a total procrastinator, so I hear your pain!

You did it! Heck, if it weren't for the last minute, I'd never finish half of what I do :) Glad you got it all done.

Make the birthday boy genuflect before you, that's what I say. Then you can pretend to knight him with your quilt.

Nothing on the news so far about nephew suffocated with quilt after not expressing suitable wonderment and appreciation so I'm figuring it was a winner...well done on getting it done, it looks Awweeesoome!...and what is it with other people stuffing up carefully laid plans this week?

Baa-Me Kniits said...

Its certainly a winner!! Well done and nothing like letting things get down to the wire is there.....you feel 'SO GOOD' when it is done, must be why we all do it? Congratulations and I hope you got the reaction you were hoping for :-)

I had no idea it was so huge. Wow! No wonder you were having a time of it. It looks amazing. Well done!Hope you partied your little toes off and all your wonderful stitching efforts were suitably appreciated.
That happens to us we have Nothing on and then next thing we are faced with everything happening on the same night.

Looks great! Now you can come help me finish packing since I'm procrastinating and reading blogs! Lol

Well you did it and it is fabulous. I'm sure he'll love it. You must be about ready for a restful weekend soon. One where you veg out, sit around or go out for the day , have lunch, socialise, do nothing and REST girl or you'll burn out !!! I know you have boundless energy but you have to take it easy now and then.
Cheers

I was going to say "THAT THING IS HUGE!!!!!", but you did it for me. It's also pretty darn amazing! Love hearing about your hectic social whirlwind of a life! Now see, I live the kind of boring life that procrastination is suited to. (See, nothing learnt here!) Hope your week is an excellent one!
