A Monumental Quilting Weekend

Given that I spent pretty much all weekend in my pyjamas, (a passive aggressive response to having way too much structure in my life this week due to a return to work)  I felt obligated to be productive while wearing said pyjamas and my two choices were sewing or doing housework. I chose the former.  I was primed from my Friday Night Sewing Party with Little Miss Sunshine so the sewing party just rolled into Saturday and Sunday.  Part-ayyyyyyy Weekend. It's been a long time since I've done that.

The Christmas Coin quilt top got finished. Yep. Done.

I started and finished my top for the FM Quiltalong over at A Few Scraps. Can you spot my grievous error? Thank goodness this is a practice piece.

Then I pieced a back for the Quiltalong , again not without minor incident (some unsewing was necessary)

I made the binding for my circles quilt , and machine sewed that on. I'm hand sewing the binding to the back, and since I have never hand sewn a binding in my life you might  be waiting for a very long time to see this one finished. I'm trying a different way of binding this time in an attempt not to hate my finished binding efforts so much. Let's hope it works. I'm in love with this quilt and I think it's the best quilt  I've ever done. Just sayin'.

I felted a pink  jumper I was about to take to Goodwill  and I came up with an idea  for this crocheted shawl that I picked up from the op shop recently for the bargain price of $2.00. I also wondered when all this inspired thought I've been having lately will disappear.

On top of that I managed to have the Pyjama's clan  over for dinner tonight (and yes I do need  a bigger dining  table )

and I went  to Ikea today to get my new computer room shelves, which are now assembled and being used. Life is sweet!

  2. So good to have fun playing in the sewing room this weekend, and the housework will wait. who cares how big the dust bunnies are - they are harmless.

My attempt at housework resulted in a painful injury - I retreated to the sewing room for a rest.

    Gorgeous projects by the way!

  4. So exciting to get so much done! I absolutely LOVE IKEA and am glad that you have one 'down under'. I am impressed that you stayed in your PJs - I always feel too guilty - maybe it's because I stayed in my PJs for about 10 years when my 5 children were little? I can't believe you're toying with starting the bathroom so soon after the kitchen!! Good luck!

  6. How marvelously productive one can be in while in their jim-jams. I keep trying to convince people to let me where them to work, but so far I've been unsuccessful.

  7. What an awesomely productive weekend! I love your Christmas coin quilt top. It turned out beautifully. As for binding, I always sew the back down by hand for the reason you stated--it looks so much better. The secret my dear is to sit in front of the TV and go until your day. You must never say "am I there yet?". Just pretend you don't care until you're all the way around.

Cool family dinner. That's a big job, but fun to have everyone around.

  9. Now that you are freed from the reno drudgery, you want to nest. Yup, that's all there is to it! Also, you are decorating your new house in your Christmas dreams so you'll have a quilt to prop over that painted chair in the dining room. Wonderful!

  14. You did get a lot done. It is easier to get a lot done when you have a friend work with you! Love the Christmas quilt. Can't wait to see what you are doing different with the binding.

I still can't believe you are getting your new kitchen dirty! I would have to just look at it a while longer.

  20. I really hope you went to Ikea in your pjs. I went there tonight in my slippers. OK. Not quite the same thing. And since I do just live across the road (ish) it's not surprising that I turn the dinner off for a moment and pop over to Ikea in my slippers. You had an amazing weekend! Hope the week is just as amazing.

  21. I totally love your FM Quiltalong top and back. Your fabrics are so fun and, no, I don't see your grievous error. Ugh. I still don't have mine done . . . I'd better get on that b/c I know that Christina is going to be announcing the first step any time now.

Your Christmas Coins top is just beautiful. I love, love, love it!

And the binding on your circles quilt looks really good so far. If you mail it to me, I'll do the hand stitching part. I love that part. It is a favorite of mine.

I loved seeing the Pyjamas clan. The all look so happy to have their photograph taken in the middle of dinner.

    You are awesome!

  22. Wow you sure are getting things done !
I really love the Christmas quilt. Now what do you do with it? Does it hang on the wall somewhere as a decoration or take up residence on a bed till the Christmas season is over? I think the red spot you used was an inspired choice.
    Cheers

  23. Sweet! I found you by surfing in from Seams Inspired and I think I'm here to stay. :)

I must ask though (as a fellow weekend Pajama'er) did you go to Ikea in your pajamas? Did you change when the clan came over for dinner? ;)

A quilt top in a day!! Very cool!
