Sock It To Me

When I woke at 4.30 this morning it was about 5 degrees Celsius. Just as an aside, I'm not sure where Spring is supposed to be because it isn't here this week- I think the Queenslanders are hogging all the sun again which is just selfish since it's not like that they haven't had it all winter. Some states are just not very good at sharing. Bastards.

Anyway, normally that level of cold at that time of the morning would bother me since we have a lot of tiled floors but this morning I had something warm and fluffy to help me ward off frostbite.

You will notice in this picture that Im fully dressed and ready for work - or so it would appear. Sadly I am not that organised - I fell asleep in my clothes last night. I do that a lot. On the lounge. Lets not make a big deal out of that OK?

Anyway ...I had warm and fluffy socks this morning to keep my toes from falling off. Why am I writing a post about that? Lots of people own socks. Au Contraire mes amis - these socks are the biggest of big deals.

You see, I know the Queen of hand knitted socks. And I've been watching her knits socks all winter. Red socks, and blue socks, and purple socks and neutral socks. (If I start channeling Fox in Socks-someone slap me) And every single pair has been completely unique and utterly gorgeous. Truly hand crafted amazingness.

And eventually Ms. Mistea got fed up with me telling her how wonderful her socks were and how cold it is down South and she offered to knit me some fluffy goodness of my own. Because honestly even though I can knit - I don't do socks because they have heels and toes and all sorts of other complicated things I have no idea how to do because the only decreasing of stitches that ever gets done with any of my knitting is when I accidentally drop stitches and then I have to post my knitting to my Mum so she can pick up the stitches and send it back to me so I can keep going. Hopeless.

So I swung by the post office yesterday after work, and couldn't contain my excitement at receiving a parcel that I knew contained AWESOME socks till I got home and ripped it open in the car , at the front of the post office, and scared three little old ladies by screaming at a pitch that could be heard two suburbs away when my socks fell out.

Even the bottom of the socks are a masterpiece. Look! Little paw prints!

I seriously cannot believe how gorgeous these socks are. And that they're hand knitted. I know some seriously talented peeps.

Thankyou Mistea- they really are one of the most beautiful  things I own.

I'm trying to work out a way I can wear these to work today so I don't have to take them off...do you think they would look OK with a dress and Mary Janes if I pushed them down to look slouchy?

P.S. Dear Queensland , I don't really think you're Bastards. I just said that for dramatic effect. But I bet you're wishing you had some cold right about now don't you?

Umm as the Queen of PJ's how come you don't get into your jim jams when you get home, so you can fall asleep on the couch in comfort?

It was so much fun knitting socks for you and just in time for the latest (maybe last) cold snap so your toes could be cosy.
    Enjoy

  9. I for one would gladly send you some of our sunshine and heat. Strangely this morning was quite chilly but I'm not getting excited 'cos I know it won't last.

  10. Well thankyou Shay for sending us some of your cool weather. It's not so hot this morning, windy and much cooler than the past couple of days. We would gladly share our Qld weather but it doesn't want to leave and go down south. Love your socks, they are gorgeous. Hugs......

  13. One seriously gorgeous pair of socks, and equal opportunity for both cat and dog lovers! I'm in no hurry for summer, it gets too damn hot here anyway. Remember a few years back when we were frying in September and it went right through till April? I have no interest in going back there so Qld can keep their warm weather and I'll take the rain while it comes! And besides if it gets warm you'll have to take your socks off!

  14. I love your socks, I agree this morning was one very big shock,it is supposed to be warming up. I realised about 4am it was cold and turned on the electric blanket, problem with that, I can't wake up, I'm too warm. My sister bought me a pair of snoozies, soft slipper socks at the begining of winter, I have almost worn them out, love, love, them so much. Enjoy the sunshine today who knows what tomorrow may bring.

  18. Those are great socks! I could use a pair like that myself as we are heading into winter. I'm stocking up on warm things and sock are on my list. I'm going to have to befriend someone superior knitting skills and then bribe with with chocolate, or something.

  19. Those socks are , without doubt, the best socks ever created!!! The paw prints on the bottom are just the cherry on the yummy cake. I didn't even know socks like that were possible!

  20. Your friend Mistea must like you rather a lot! Us knitters generally don't knit just for anyone but instead for those that appreciate it a lot. You certainly seem to fit that bill!

  21. Gorgeous socks! Did you find a way to wear them to work?

  24. Socks? I am so jealous. I too can knit, but not socks. (There's no way that would ever happen, and if I could by some fluke make one there's no way a second would ever appear. Lightning doesn't strike twice you know, and I have two feet. Damn, if only I was Adam Hills) You do know talented people. I hope you wore them to work.

  27. Sometimes I hate Marg and her perfect weather. :)

Love the socks!!! This is about the time I break out the wool socks and don't look back for months. I love your community of talented people ( my mother in law would call them 'gals') and your generosity with each other! Wish I could send soup in the mail to eat while you wear your socks :)

  28. OMG, those are fabulous! I think this is the only time I've truly regretted being allergic to wool, otherwise I'd have my mum whipping me up some in a trice! I suspect it's not got the same warmth with cotton or the lesser spotted acrylic...
