For 12 long years I've struggled every single time I've opened our back sliding door. The muscles in my left arm have become disproportionately over developed because of the force needed to open it. Yes- I have one superhero arm and one bingo wing. The door rollers were dodgy before I moved in here and because some bright spark told us that we would have to replace the entire window, door and frame we've just put up with it. My father in law decided he could do something about that when he was here on Sunday and by last night for the first time ever I have a door that you can open with one finger. I can't tell you how happy that makes me . I've opened that door so many times over the last day that Mr. P keeps warning me I'm going to wear it out. The little things people - its the little things. Be thankful I don't know how to upload video because if I did you would all be treated to 10 minutes of YouTube video of a door opening and closing (and I'd fully expect you to get as excited about it as I am)
I bit the bullet on Monday and bought some bulbs for the garden. I've never grown flowers from bulbs in my life. If I manage to keep them from curling up their toes, come Spring maybe my garden will look something like this. 20 bulbs should yield a vista like this - right?
Image credit because mine haven't been put in the ground yet
And I love the look of this clump of Hyacinths so I'm going to have a go at keeping some of them alive too. I may have just wasted $37.95 that I could have spent on fabric but I think it will make for an interesting experiment.

And lastly there has been some plotting and planning going on here the last few weeks that I've refused to get excited about until I knew whether it was likely to come to pass. The crane and transport guys came yesterday and advised they could get this into our yard by removing part of our back fence and using a crane to drop it down and it wont cost us a trillion dollars. Now I'm keeping everything crossed that council will play nice and approve it. ( If you could all keep your fingers and toes crossed for us that would be great -thanks)
I figure this would be the perfect place to store my fabric and other sewing related items as well as everything we have in our current (very small) shed. Now do you see why I'm so excited?

Good luck on your new sewing/shed addition! That looks awesome. I totally get you about the excitement involved in being able to freely open your door. Things are very slooooow about getting fixed around here and so the excitement when it is workable is completely all out of proportion.:)
ReplyDeleteOh, I do hope the council approves your new sewing room. That is pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteAbout the bulbs, well, does it get cold enough there in winter? Bulbs need a cold winter in order to wake up in the spring and bloom. I'm crossing my fingers for you. Because bulbs are amazing. One of my favorite things, actually. Hyacinths smell amazing. If your neighbors grow them, you should be OK. If not, I can tell you how to "force" the bulbs and you can still enjoy a beautiful spring garden.
And the sliding door; you are right. It is the little things. I'm so glad your Father-in-law could fix it!
All around, a great post.

I'm excited too, is there room for a spare bed in that thing? I'll not drool too much on the fabric in my sleep, honest...
ReplyDeleteSo glad FIL finally thought he could fix that door after 12 years too ;o)
Squeeee! That's me excited for you. Crossing fingers, toes, and eyeballs ...and sending up a prayer ;) that council approves. Keep us posted!
ReplyDeleteFirst the door, then more storage, I'd be doing cartwheels at that point. Hope it all works out!
ReplyDeleteIt IS the little things!! And you'll be so happy you planted those bulbs come the Spring...!
ReplyDeleteWow, a sewing retreat in your own backyard - how cool would that be? I totally get your excitement over a door that opens easily. Everything in this house takes an age to get fixed so I'll enjoy rejoicing in yours while I wait for mine to happen!
ReplyDeleteIt is the little things. I'd be happy with a door with a screen to keep the bugs out. As the days get warmer, I wish for it more and more.
ReplyDeleteI love your new sewing space, hope the council approves ..
Hope you get to have that room in your yard. I have half the shed enclosed and made into my sewing room. It's great to have a space for all your sewing. Hugs.....
ReplyDeleteA door that glides AND extra storage for fabric??? I'm excited for you too! Fingers, toes and eyes all crossed for approval. :)
ReplyDeleteLurve that little shed, isn't it cool! And it would be all yours? or mostly yours? Can just imagine sipping a cool bubbly on that verandah......yay for the door that works!
ReplyDeleteThat is such a super shed!! I can just picture pretty flower beds surrounding full of colourful bulb flowers.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to go have a lie down after all this excitement. Everything crossed for you. A sewing shed of your own. Woohoo!
ReplyDeleteI am sure you are very excited having the prospect of a studio/space to sew...and fill up with fabric!
ReplyDeleteWow, sounds like you might be getting your own sewing studio!! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI have my Fingers Crossed you can have that New Sewing Space...Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteGood Luck with the Bulbs!!!

Fееl frеe to viѕit my hοmeρagе reputation management firm
How many times have you slammed the door? I know when Lucas tweaked our back sliding door I slammed it quite a few times. I planted my bulbs this week perhaps we could have an open garden in spring lol. Have you contacted Reputation Management Firm !!!!!!!!!!!! He has put you in his bookmarks lol.
ReplyDeleteHoly huge shed! You'll have tons of room, how perfect.
ReplyDeleteI hear you on the door. Amazing the stuff we learn to live with, isn't it? Can you send your father-in-law over, I have about 100 projects for him to work on.
Fields of floors, doors that slide nicely and a lovely new sewing space all sound like perfect reasons to be excited. Hope the council play nice!
ReplyDeleteEven in my pre gardening days I was drawn to bulbs and they did work most of the time, but tulips need to be cold before they will grow...so check on www to see if you need to put them in the fridge crisper prior to planting them? Hyathicths I have grown in water in a special bulb vase, in my kitchen. The vase belonged to my grandmother and is one of my fav posessions, but i do think I have previously seen them in Bunnings...would save you having to dig in the garden! Awesome to have a sewing cottage..way to nice to house shed stuff...I can see another home decorating phase coming your way, fingers and toes crossed the council play nice and do so quickly!
ReplyDeleteBulbs will work amazingly well for you! That sewing room is so great in so many ways, can you put it on wheels to transport to alternate locations at all? :)
ReplyDeleteWell you are easy to please! Imagine that! All it took was someone to be as ticked about the door as you!
ReplyDeleteI think you will think you've died and gone to heaven if you age a studio the size of which you only dreamed of! Good luck!
Oh gosh I forgot...you don't have rabbits do you? The critters LOVE bulbs!

ReplyDeleteI couldn't tell if you were kidding or serious about the shed, so I had to come back and re-read this again later. I guess I'm wondering, how big is your yard? The thing looks huge, but maybe that's the photographic angle. Anyway, go for it!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking you do need to go bigger on the tulips!
It's the little things that make us happy! Now you can just use your one arm to garden and keep that muscle built up...I too love bulbs but am a terrible gardener. Crossing everything but my eyes that your future shed makes the grade!
ReplyDeleteI love bulbs! That's pretty much all I plant these days. You just pop them in the ground, ignore them for a few months, and magically they appear on their own...I love those potted ones, I may have to steal that idea! :)
ReplyDeleteEverything crossed that the council plays nice and lets you have your sewing room. I know you will make it intros a gorgeous room.
ReplyDeleteWhy couldn't your FIL fix the door BEFORE I arrived?
I hope the bulbs are going in the front and won't end up casualties from the dogs.
