I got it all going on over here (finally)

I finally brushed the cobwebs off my sewing machine this past weekend. It had been so long since I'd touched it that I was afraid I'd forgotten how it worked.

I have been promising to sew the wings onto this fairy costume for about 6 weeks . It took all of three minutes and I did it this weekend.

Flurry finally got finished. Another WIP bites the dust! And I have yet to make a Christmas type quilt that I adore. Maybe it's time to give up?

I'm 6 hexies away from having enough to finally assemble this into a  quilt top, so I went virtual shopping on Sunday and bought some fabric for the blocks these are going to be appliquéd onto. Yes - I'm taking the easy way out. If I have to do a bajillion more hexies by hand around all of these I'm going to tear my hair out.  A couple of other things not related to this project may have slipped into my cart at the same time. That seems to happen to me a lot.

We acquired a smaller kennel recently (for free  which is always my favourite kind of acquisition!) that I thought would be a great replacement for the manky cat baskets we had out the back and so I cut a chair cushion in half and sewed it shut and voila! instant cat cushion. I love projects that take 10 minutes.  Too bad the cats don't really like their new home...Mordecai in particular has been looking at me with voodoo eyes ever since his cat basket disappeared.

And I worked on my Briar Rose quilt. I started this one in August at a sewing workshop and I'm hoping to get the top finished by the end of the month.  I'm a lot further on than this picture shows, so the goal of a finished quilt top is actually looking like a serious reality. It's actually prettier in person than my crap photography would have you believe.

I haven't shown my Farmers Wife quilt progress for ages and that's basically because there hasn't been any progress. It's been sitting in it's plastic tub mocking me. I'm calling it . The blocks are about to make the coolest pot holders ever. Stay tuned to be amazed.

  4. Were those quilt fairy wings? Because it appears that you have had a visitation from those b-tches (and I mean that word in the nicest way). Seriously, though, your mojo has returned in spades. Good going!

  7. Very nice! And I don't think getting a backing fabric for the hexies is a cop out. Just a different technique. Do what you have to to get it finished I say! Love the pot holders.

  8. Love the fairy wings. You did get busy on the quilting front too. Congrats for getting Flurry off the WIP list. It looks great. As do your hexies. Can't wait to see that quilt come together.

  10. I just posted some comments but they didn't show up .. something about signing in, and I didn't. Anyway, looks like you really got going. I think flurry is wonderful. Maybe when it's completely finished you'll feel better about it .. as for hexies, not one of my favorite things so I'm with you on that.

I hope Mordecai will eventually come around .. it looks really comfy.

Send some mojo or something my way, please.

  11. I think the Christmas quilt thing is just something we don't really "get" here in Aus! Honestly, it's not snowing outside, we put up a tree that is either fake or has just been "upcycled" from the bushland just up the road and we serve cold prawns and ham for lunch - we just don't need quilts hanging around, now do we!? I have wall hangings and would be okay in making a new one but most patterns feature snowmen and strange looking Santas. and having said all that, I think your quilt is lovely!

  12. Gee wizz, you certainly made up for your lack of sewing. All this sewing frenzy, I'm thinking the real Shay has returned from being poked by aliens Welcome back.
I know what you think of Flurry but it looks really good from here!

  14. Flurry looks great, OK you dont love it, but got to love the fact it is finished...in time for Christmas! Personally I am beginning to think hexis are evil and will haunt me forever, so the idea of appliquing them is now very very appealing...can I do that by machine? Red pot holders for Christmas will be great gifts! I spent a large part of my 20's actively avoiding becoming a Farmers Wife - much to my Dad's relief!

  20. Love the Christmas quilt. It is something that I could think about doing as I don't do "seasonal" types of quilts, but that is very cute.
I think your farmer's wife quilt isn't a fav, because the wife picked dark colours that don't make her happy. No worries, someone may want darks and you will have them. Love the kitty house. At least it looks good, throw food in there and the dog will squeeze in and make it home.

  21. Sounds like your sewing machine has forgiven you for the recent neglect. But I'm sure it understands sunny skies and relaxing beaches sometimes have to take priority. BTW...if you are looking for a home for your Christmas quilt, it wold look lovely in my home. Just sayin....

  22. Well that was certainly an eclectic selection of makes (please be impressed by the big words, it's 10pm and we've been driving all over Christendom/Southern Utah/Colorado for a week)

  24. Another post I read and didn't comment on? Call me the worst blog friend ever!

Those little fairy costumes are adorable! Great job on the wings!

LOVE your Christmas gift quilt! It is really fun!

Swooning over those hexies again. I love that fabric line! When I ever get around to a hexie quilt, I'm totally going to sew them onto blocks as well.

The Briar Rose quilt is so pretty! I love those colors!
