There hasn't been a lot of sewing of current projects going on here this weekend. I spent Friday with Miss and Little P at my sister's and then was back there yesterday for Grand Final. Collingwood got pasted. I just want to say that out loud because I was going for Geelong.
Apparently it's rude to take your sewing machine to other people's houses when you're supposed to be socialising so I had to take some hand stitching. That meant starting another new project (that would be number 8 in my current queue) I'll do a round up of current projects later this week because even I'm starting to lose track of what I have on the go and what needs to be done.
The eventual plan for these blocks is for them to be a part of a much bigger quilt with flowers and butterflies and 9 patches in 30's repro fabric. I am still at the concept stage because I had to bang together something to do 10 minutes before I went out to my sisters yesterday, so this hasn't had a lot of thought yet.
I got the urge this weekend to use some of my other creative talents and wandered out shopping and bought about 100 bucks worth of scrap booking supplies. We'll see what eventuates from this lot.
The wonky block top is half together. I'm really liking how this is turning out. Let's hope nephew No 2 does too. I don't think I've uttered one profane word yet while making this. Spooky- and most unlike me.
And a bit of retail therapy today with a Spotlight gift car yielded the perfect binding for the brown and Blue quilt . Of course I got it home and realised I already have some of that blue and white dot in my stash but that doesn't mean I love it any less.
And the perfect backing for the Merry Go Round Quilt. I love it when I get things on HUGE sale. Half price! They'll be able to see this quilt from deep space without the aid of the Hubble telescope.
I'm hoping tomorrow which is a public holiday (yay a free day off !) provides an opportunity for some actual sewing to get done although it's been relaxing being a bit slack for a change.
The wonky top is fabbo.....as indeed are the other projects!
ReplyDeleteI know you say you haven't done a lot - but it looks a lot to me!! Go you!!
ReplyDeleteDon't you hate it (well ok maybe hate is a bit strong) when you get home and find out you just bought something you already had. I did that this weekend too - but since it was also pretty dots (DS at that) and I got them for $6 a metre, I really didn't complain at myself for long!
Just about to go make a crazy scrappy pouch for the swap. Wish me luck...
living in a limited space has restrictions that for a quilter there are definite drawbacks. where to put the stuff and with no place to hide, I keep things simple.
ReplyDeleteScrap booking? Not even in the horizon as my SIL does it and it can be more expensive than quilting!
And more messy if you believe her
Love those cute hearts - sounds like a great concept!
ReplyDeleteI am usually a monogamous quilter who likes to see one project from start to finish....right now I have 6 quilts on the go! I am not sure I will finish any of them at this rate (and certainly didn't in time for my previous Sewing Summit deadline, which is in 4 days!). I am loving how your projects are shaping up, am especially crushing on the wonky blocks- love those blues. the hearts are adorable- like the concept so far! And I have likely several hundred bucks of scrapbook stuff wasting away in my cupboard, so hopefully yours will see the light better than min!
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't Geelong vs. Collingwood, it was Australia vs. Collingwood, and Australia won.
ReplyDeleteWonky blocks are good because you can mess them up as much as you want and then retrospectively tell everyone you meant to do it.
One of the benefits of shopping therapy is buying things you like. I have 4 or 5 pieces of some of my fabrics. Some were purchased all at one time - fat quarters was all that was left of this particular orange print so I got all I could. If I'm going to cut it up anyway it might be a benefit for it to be in smaller pieces at the start... more manageable that way. I think you're a genius!
ReplyDeleteLove your green and blue nephew quilt. How generous of you. I've never made a quilt for a nephew. I have 8 of them... nephews that is, and 9 nieces!!!
Glad you are back blogging. Been missing you!
Hugs,
Looks like you did plenty to me. I started thinking about scrapbooking a few years ago and stocked up on supplies (fueled by QVC - sad or what!) but then never did any. I started quilting instead. I keep thinging I should go and do something with all the stuff I bought, but never do... enjoy.
ReplyDeleteYou may not be quilting your arse off but you sure are shaking your booty! I really love your wonky quilt! Are you using a pattern or making it up? Nice fabric purchases, love half price backing fabric!! Have fun scrap booking!!
ReplyDeleteHope you had a line in for me on your bonus day off. Love all the things you have on the go, but don't understand why you couldn't take your machine with you to your sister's. She's family! The rules don't apply there.
ReplyDeleteI hate when the iPad corrects me when it shouldn't! Above should say lie in!!
ReplyDeletelooks like even if you didn't get much sewing in, you've been at least somewhat productive. Didn't know you did scrap booking. Looks like you found some really cool stuff.
ReplyDeleteFirstly I have to say there's an air of gloom over this house as Tony is a Collingwood fan !
ReplyDeleteI really like the quilt for your nephew. Great design for a boy. I'll keep in it mind for when I need another
Cheers
I'm very proud of you for not using any profanity. That deserves a box of chocolates. :o)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the hearts, Shay.. and the dots. You can never have enough of the dots. :) Dots are a staple, right? And loving the hubble telescope backing. ha! What a happy quilt that will be. And your bit about no profanity cracked me up. :)
ReplyDeleteLove teal/blue and chocolate together throw in some pale pink and it is a heavenly combination. Have been hitting the sewing room today just 15 minutes every now and again amazing how much gets done. Hope you had a lovely day
ReplyDeleteWho's been a busy girl then and made the most of their weekend.
ReplyDeleteLove the hearts, they are going to look fab with the 9 patches and butterflies, can't wait to see it.
Nephew No. 2's quilt top is gorgeous, love the colours and the design.
Great backing fabrics, always love getting a bargain.
You're idea of slack is seriously wrong!
Hope the free day is filled with lots of colours and fun stuff.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy all of this!
I love your slack time :-) I didn't watch the grand final but did read some sad comments about Meatloaf :-( I am going down to Sydney to see him as a treat from my girlfriend for our birthdays.....hope he is better at his concert? Its good to have a long weekend, I miss the October one, we get all ours at he beginning of the year and then nothing until Christmas......its a long dry spell!
ReplyDeletelooks like a nice therapeutic time!
ReplyDeleteDid you have help with the hand stitching - does Little P ever want to "help"? :)
so happy to hear you have an extra day off!!! here's hoping the weather turns nice and that you have a great day!
Whew! You're making me dizzy with all of your ongoing projects, Shay! You sure I can't call dibbs on the Merry Go Round quilt? Besides the fact that it's just stunning, I've always wanted a quilt that could be seen from deep space. ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove the hearts and the wonky quilt! Looks like lots of fun craftey stuff was going on this weekend.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what you come up for your scrapbooking. I decided a long time ago to just stick with digital scarpbooking, I was concerned I would end up with a second equally big stash!
I love to buy scrapbooking supplies, but I really stink at actually doing it. I used to do art journals, and still love that, but seldom do it anymore either, because with 8 g-kids close by they all think scrap book goodies are fair game for their crafts, and I'm not to nice at sharing that stuff. So it stays in drawers where I can't see it and out of sight, out of mind, as they say.
ReplyDeleteThe heart squares are great! I really love reproduction fabrics! I really like how the wonky quilt looks too! I'm sure your nephew will adore it as well!
I'm so glad I'm not the only one that buys fabric only to find that I have the same thing at home. Hey, if it speaks to you that much, I think you NEED more than one piece!
