Favourite Things Friday

I was blown away by all the participation in FTF last week. Thank you for dropping by, linking up and playing.

My favourite thing this week was prompted by an influx of mail which had me doing a funky happy dance. You may recall when I asked for donations of selvages for a quilt I'm making next year. Some lovely kind people responded and my selvage pile is growing ever larger!

First from Thea over at California Dreamin'

And from Kat at Mumma's Time to Create

Who also sent me these because I'm a Babushka addict.

 And a chocolate addict.

And  from P at The Way I Sew It (who sent them all folded like this - I'm pretty sure she has a touch of the Virgo about her . Who else but a Virgo would send these folded?)

Who also popped in this piece of beauty that I had admired on her blog a few weeks ago.

It's not that I don't adore every single one of the goodies I was sent this week. But the selvages made me squeal like a 13 year old at a Justin Bieber concert.

What this means is that I think I have enough scraps to start my selvage quilt as soon as 2012 hits. It took all of my will power not to roll around amongst this pile of gorgeous-ness.

Alright! I did roll around in the pile. Sheesh.   At least I wasn't naked because that would just be plain weird.

I also didn't have the internal fortitude or sense NOT to start the quilt either. Could you resist with all those selvages staring you in the face and begging you to come and play?

So...my favourite thing this week is selvages. The ones I've been collecting for about two years and the ones that have been gifted to me by awesome friends. Thank you awesome friends!

Kat is some kind of comedian - she sent me a zipper. Apparently she is expecting me to make some dolly zipper purses. Pftttttttttt...that zipper is likely to perish  from age before I attempt a zip. I'm planning to leave it to one of my grandchildren in my will with the story of how hilarious Kat is.

Maybe I should frame it....

P.S.I will be away next week visiting Little Miss Sunshine (go me !) so FTF will be on hold while I'm actually enjoying one of my favourite things- holidays! I'll be back the following week though so hold onto those favourite things thoughts.

  1. I think I may come up twice didn't read the message about cacheing. I myself are counting sleeps and all the things I must do before we head on off to QLD... getting excited. I would send you selvages but I don't actually cut mine off (in one piece that is). The thing is I am a scrooge when it comes to fabric and I will make the most of it when I cut it up and that means cutting it up to the last possible thread before the selvage. sorry...

  2. You can't have enough selvedges yet. You haven't got mine. And I need your address please.

  3. No self control Miss Shay. You're worse than me.
I'm really really glad there's no photos of a naked Mrs P rolling in selvages.
    6 sleeps to go!

  5. Due to lack of content, I am not doing Friday this week, however, I need zippers...making bags and like you till I started making those, I just didn't do zippers!

  6. ok I think I'd like my selvedges back thanks. Because that quilt is going to be A.MAZ.ING which means that I need to make one too now.
ok I'm obviously joking - I have no shortage of fabric to make more selvedges, but on a serious note of course you have to use that zipper!! You know yourself I do easy tutorials and it is begging to be used to make one of my scrappy zipper pouches with one of those dolls on the front. I even sent you one of my favourite colours instead of my first instinct to send you BROWN (ick) - so now you have to use it or I will make you forever feel guilty LOL....

  10. Those blocks are terrific! I admire that you got started right away .. no use wasting time. I think you should just add the zipper to your quilt .. don't use it as a zipper ... Can't wait to see the quilt. So, how many projects are you working on now?

  12. Fabric is irresistable, always, even more than chocolate! Looks like your giving in yielded big results--I could almost hear your Bieber squeal from here :)

  16. This cracked me up. You have to overcome your zipper demons! And I can honestly say I have never felt the need to roll naked in selvages. It's certainly a thought that will stay with me today!

  17. I knew you couldn't wait until 2012 to start that! Your blocks look great so far, so colorful and happy. Had to laugh at the zipper. If I got one, they could put it in a museum generations from now, 'cause I have no idea what to do with one.

  18. Look at you! You are little Miss Popular! YOU GO GIRL! :o) Do you need more selvages?

  19. Love your selvege blocks, very pretty.

Maybe you could use the zipper as part of the label for your selvege quilt. It would work if you added the label after it was quilted.

    Enjoy your holiday next week!

  21. Thats one hell of a pile of selvages - no, no one could be expected to leave them unsewn until next year. Enjoy rolling around in them and your visit to Marg. I await the police report...

  23. Zips aren't that scary. They are one of the few things I can think of that have teeth, but don't bite...

  24. I don't think I'd be much good at selvages - they are a bit skinny for me and the thought of ironing them all to sew them (shudder) BUT I do love seeing what other's do with them and love, love, love the blocks so am excited to see your selvageness. Woooo - go you! You'll have a blast, though I'm wondering if Marg will have a post 'Mayhem in Paradise' lol - lord knows what you two will get up to x

  25. I have a dear friend that loves selvages and makes totes and purses from them. I do enjoy looking at them, but I won't be saving mine... so many scraps as it is, I'll be quilting till the day I die as it is!

  26. Wow lots of nice selvages, aren't quilters the best?
    Enjoy your holiday!

  27. Yikes, I'm late with this one. Never mind at least I finaly got there.
This quilt made of selsages looks interesting. Those bits must be quite narrow are they? Lots of sewing involved. What you've done looks great. I gather you are making square blocks - of about 6 inches? - then sewing them together some way. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
    Cheers

  28. I'm like you with the zippers, only managed to sew one or two in successfully so far. I think I will get better with Kat's tutorial she is great at them. Those selvages are really nice, what a fab idea....rather you than me though with all those skinny pieces of fabric!

  29. Wow those selvage blocks look fantastic!

Hey, you didn't roll around naked in the selvage pile? How do you know you didn't miss one of the most thrilling opportunities of your life? ;-)

  30. Well plenty of gorgeousness there - glad you didn't hesitate and got started straight away.
Enjoy all those little pieces of fabric and holidaying in the sunshine.

  32. So, you know that batch of selvages P. sent you? Well, I'm connected to one of those pieces. It is the blue/purple/turquoise curvyish striped one on the left side. My friend, Wanda, who lives in California, sent that fabric to me. When P. said she was looking for funky & psychedelic for her Kaleidoscope quilts, I sent it to her. And she's sent you the selvage.

I had to laugh at you rolling in the pile of selvages and am not one bit surprised that you already got to work on them. You are a dynamo.

Sorry I missed FTF this week. I had my post all planned out in my head and then didn't have time to get to it. I've saved it up for a week from Friday. Have a wonderful holiday!
