It's Monday again. Back to the daily grind for another week. Why do weekends go by in the blink of an eye and the equivalent number of working days seem to drag on forever? Chocolate for whoever comes up with the best answer that doesn't involve complicated scientific theory. My head can't cope with complicated.
I had a productive weekend of sewing and got a stack of things done. More on that on tomorrow. In the meantime I want so share a sneak peek of a quilt I started this weekend that's on my list to finish by the end of the year.
This one is for nephew number 2 who not so subtly reminded me on Friday night that I made his brother a quilt and he wants one too. I've been planning this one for a while and it's easy peasy. Saturday morning it was a pile of fat quarters and as of Sunday lunchtime only 5 blocks stood between me and starting to put a quilt top together. That's my kind of quilt! I was a bit dubious that I'd be grooving on the colour scheme or the fact it's all solids but so far so good.
I stepped out of my comfort zone this past week and signed up for my first ever swap. Kat is hosting a scrappy swap and it looked like a low stress , fun swap. I stress out at the the thought of swaps . My internal dialogue runs something like this "What if what I make is crap? What if the recipient hates it? What if I don't send enough and my partner thinks I'm mingy?". Kat's swap has rules on not going overboard so it was perfect. Now I just have to get over my Flickr fear.... and suck up enough courage to make a mosaic.
My Dad is still in the hospital and no word yet on when he might be coming home. We totally busted the "2 visitors at a time rule" when visiting him today. At one stage we had 8 people in his room and played musical chairs for three hours with the two whole chairs they provided. When the Pyjamas clan get together we're none too quiet either. I bet that comes as shock to all of you. That kind of normality probably aided my Dad's recovery no end.
perhaps it's the old "time flies when you're having fun" .. must be physics and the theory of relativity .. guess that's not a qualifying answer.
ReplyDeleteLove the new quilt. So you have six started .. that's amazing.
hope your dad's doing better and comes home soon.
I must have missed the news that your dad was not well. Glad to hear he is on the mend and hope he is home from hospital soon.
ReplyDeleteI've been catching up on all your quilting news - very impressive. glad the Flurry is finished, it's a fav of mine. Love the new one in reds and I'm eager to see the solid colour one for your nephew. It looks a good choice for a boy.
On the swap topic - sounds a good starter but I'm not game for it yet. Perhaps some time in the future as they do sound fun.
Have a good week
Cheers
Wow another quilt nearly finished go you. I also have swap anxiety. Hope your dad continues to improve, I agree I am sure the normal family stuff is better than 2 visitors at once. May the working week fly.
ReplyDeleteLove the new quilt...when do you have time to go to work???? I hope your Dad is well soon.
ReplyDeleteKeep your eye out for a few selvages coming your way.
Oh. I so wanted that chocolate. But all I have to offer is the "time flies when you're having fun" (weekend) and bleech (work). *sigh* And it's all been said before.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that your dad is not well Shay but sounds like the clan is getting him back on his feet. Good luck with not leaving the nephews quilt to the final hour ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt you're working on. I've been wanting to try a solid quilt for some time now. And happy belated birthday, by the way! I'm sure you don't stink. If so, your hubby would have given you soap and a washcloth. That's a more "you know you stink when..." kind of gift. Hope you dad gets to come home soon!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a cosmic rule. 'Nuff said.
ReplyDeleteLOVING the solids! I'm going to join a BOM and thing solids are the way to go--totally not my usual thing either!
Sorry your dad is still being kept in the hospital...hope he is able to get some rest in between hordes of loving family members :)
Love the blocks! I did a quilt like that for a niece years ago, it was easy and it's so fun once you pick a color scheme!
ReplyDeleteYour nephew's quilt is off to a yummy start. Great color combination!
ReplyDeleteHope your dad gets to go home soon!
Um weekends versus weekdays... how about 2 days versus 5. Yes, there's a bit of math in there, but...
I'm still too chickenshit for a swap. I joined my first bee this year and the stress of them not liking my work makes me ill. I'm glad I 'm doing it - face your fears and all that - but not something I will do more than one of at a time. Good for you for jumping in! Know what else makes me ill? The fact that it is Monday where you are! That means it is coming my way. I'm not ready! I've only been home 4 hours! Wah!

ReplyDeleteNo doubt your dad is used to you all, and would have been surprised if only one person at a time came! The new quilt looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteWow, another one started - or lets say almost finished. You are awesome.
ReplyDeleteHope your Dad is feeling better soon, but with so much company around, I am sure he cannot possible stay ill.
I like the colors in the new quilt...very masculine. And as far as the swap anxiety goes, I just signed up for my first fabric swap and thought that was very brave already....hope you are having a great week..
I love, love, love those blocks! See you in the bee. And your dad will get better just so he can get away for a little peace and quiet. ;-)
ReplyDeleteGood to hear clan pyjamas doesn't follow the rules! Lots of healthy wishes to your Dad.
ReplyDeleteNice colours in the new project - glad it is off to a flying start.
Hey Shay's Dad- I hope you get better soon!! Shay, I love your new quilt!! The colours, the pattern, the speedy nature of it assembly. Your crap swap sound fun, good on you for leaping in.
ReplyDeleteWow -- you are on a roll. Love the solids and can't wait to see it finished.
ReplyDeleteThinking good thoughts about your Dad -- get 'em well and home soon!
The girls at work get cross at me when I tell them that time can only be experienced from within, and that their perception of the passing of time is theirs and theirs alone, and therefore if they're whinging about how slow the shift is going they've got no-one to blame but themselves.
ReplyDeleteBut I mainly say that so they'll stop whinging about their 3 hour shift when I've been there twice as long and will still be working after they go home :)
I'm hoping to get moving on some more quilts in solids in the very near future. With the right combination, awesomeness can occur. And the blues/greens colours are always a winner.
Oh no, sorry to hear about your Dad! Sending get well wishes & prayers his way!!
ReplyDeleteLove that new quilt project. Go you and your speedy productivity.
And I can't wait to see what kind of shananigans you get up to on the swap. Although I suspect it will be limited somewhat to your flickr ability - better get good quick ;)
Love the colors and the blocks for nephew #2's quilt. Looking forward to seeing how that one comes together.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the swap. Should be lots of fun. Can't wait to see what you come up with and what shows up in your post.
thinking of your dad - hoping he's recovering!
ReplyDeleteI think it's so cool that your nephew requested a quilt! can't wait to see it.
I must have missed the news on your dad having health problems. Hope he's getting better.
ReplyDeleteI saw the binding for nephew's quilt in the other post, and now I see the blocks. Ho-lee smokes, it's gorgeous! I love the colors and the pattern and everything. Hurry and get that one done so I can see the whole damn thing, will ya? I'm due for a complete swoon.
