15 Minute Challenge with Kate

This post is brought to you by :

Not a particularly great week for crafty achievement here at Maison Pyjamas. I did finally make this place mat for Little P though. Since it's going to get "bas-ghetti" and "graybee" all over it multiple times I'm not massively fussed it isn't 100 % perfect. I'd forgotten my machine did those fancy schmancy stitches because the last time I used them was in 2004.

I went fabric shopping - twice. It seems that's what I do when I cant work up the enthusiasm to craft !

40% off Denyse Schmidt. I couldn't resist. It's all Kat's fault. She told me about the Spotlight sale. Darn tooting I told on her to Mr. P.

And I finished up another one of my TTS blocks.

I ignored the Flying Dutchman quilt completely this week  ...yikes. Only 20 days until that has to make an appearance as a birthday present. Guess what I'm going to be working on like a mad thing for the next couple of weeks?

Pop on over to Kate's at Life in Pieces to see if anyone did better than I did this week.

  1. I LOVE that Christmas fabric, I bought a little (okay, a lot) of it myself. Love the placemat - great idea for the graybee, etc.

  2. Not bad for not feeling very crafty! So, "gray bee" - do you guys call the sauce that goes on spaghetti gravy? Or do you mean gravy that you make from reducing the fat from cooking a meat and thickening it?

  3. You are achieving a lot more than me at the moment. No deadlines means I'm not motivated. Finished class notes last night and pattern writing and I am done for forseeable future. really love that christmas range.

  5. I've forgotten how cute it was to hear it called 'bas-ghetti'. Most of my grandchildren call it pasta. It's fun to use the fancy stitches isn't it? I've only used a few of mine. I'd like to incorporate more of them in my sewing. Maybe a crazy quilt.

  6. Very cute placemat, love the colors! Pretty fabric. There must be something floating around in the global atmosphere that induced fabric buying over the last few days because I couldn't resist adding tot he stash either. Your stitching is really coming along too! Not too bad for a slacker week (maybe that was in the atmosphere too?)

  9. Shopping for fabric usually gets me in the mood too - to buy more fabric! lol

I like your placemat. Aren't kids a great reason to try out stuff without worrying about it being perfect? But it looks pretty perfect to me.

  11. The placemat is so cute, and I love redwork. What are you talking about when you say not very productive? Purchasing fabric on sale is very productive!

  12. Give yourself a little credit! You got tons done! Little P's placemat is SO cute and I love the Christmas stichery block! That Denise Schmidt is really awesome. Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Also, sometimes inspiration doesn't strike until the very last minute, which might be the case with The Flying Dutchman.

    You did great this week!

  14. Come on be happy...at least you have fabric stores where you can shop when you don´t feel like sewing....I don´t..and when I go to London the only real fabric shop in the city of London is on a one week summer vacation - closed...that is frustrating.
Love the fabric and the place mat...

  15. The placemat is perfect as it is! I'm sure Ethan will love it too.

Fabric shopping is necessary. Just ask any quilter.

20 days is a walk in the park. 15 minutes a day quilting and you will be golden.

  16. I think you've had a highly successful crafty week! Love the new stash - especially the Christmas fabrics. Ethan's placemat is very cool and funky and will look even more so with bas-getti (goodness that word brought back happy memories). Tis the season block is fabulous - I love seeing stitchery projects - gets me all motivated! :-)

And stash buying definitely counts! You couldn't make anything without it :-))))) enjoy x

  17. That is such a great place mat! And a great way to use those stitches that never get used. Do you think Ethan will get Spaghetti everywhere but the placemat.Yummy new fabrics!! Buying fabric is such an important part of quilting!! I missed the spotlight sale, I read about it then forgot. Oh well, Look forward to seeing what you do with it.

  18. I wish I could be a unproductively productive as you. You did quite a bit! Your redwork is lovely. I can't wait to see it all put together. Little P will certainly be excited to test out his new placemat. It's adorable. You're such a good Bella. My kids got $ store placemats with math facts...nothing handmade. LOL

    Happy Wednesday night! ☺

  19. I LOVE the placemat! Very cute, my kids will want them now.
Good luck on the last minute gift.... you are so like me that way.... I do it EVERY time! You'd think I'd learn, but nope. I sew like mad, get frustrated at inanimate objects and start blaming them, finally finish and vow I'll stay away from the fabric/sewing machine for at least a month..... and then somebody else goes and has a birthday. Or gets married. Or has a baby. Have fun! =)

  21. Hahahaha blame it all on me why don't ya!

How productive! Love the placemat. I have those on my to-do list for the girls as well (because I'm so sick of scraping sultana bran out of the seam in our table!) I'm planning on putting clear vinyl or whatever it's called on mine then binding so I don't have to wash them AS often...

  23. You achieved way more in your not particularly great week of crafty achievement that occured in my world...the placemat is very cute and like Ethan will care if it is perfect or not...great way to play with the fancy stitches...and fabric shopping so counts as craftyness, that comes under the R&D (research and development) department banner...
