This Week I Lost My Brain

The week started off with such promise. I had massive plans to achieve concrete and crafty things. House renovation type things. To look back and see a clean sparkling house.

I researched and bought a new printer. I think it has a higher IQ than I do. It scans, it prints, it photocopies. I’m fairly sure it’s working on a solution for world peace (or world domination ) as we speak.

I reupholstered another chair. Now I have a matching set of 4 which is always a bonus when you’re going for a cohesive matched look instead of the uni poverty look. The second coat of primer got done on the table. So far so good.

Tuesday it was back to the dentist (yay- I typed dentist without hurling !) which was frankly pretty darn brave of me. I have to have a wisdom tooth out which is a worry because I can’t afford to be any stupider. The hygienist worked her magic  and now I can’t stop smiling at my awesome white teeth. I'm doing a lot of mirror time.

The sparkly smile triggered something and all of a sudden I have started obsessively channelling my inner girl so this week has been  completely unproductive from an achievement point of view , unless you count spending bazillions of dollars on oneself productive.

I went and had my hair done . Three colours, a six inch cut, a blow dry and 230 bucks later I looked frankly amazing so I went and got waxed because the wild crazy lady of Borneo look is so 5 minutes ago and my Mediterranean look upper lip hair so wasn’t vibing with the oh so awesome hair.

Tragically , I then went clothes shopping. I bought this

and  this
and this

and this ...yes..heaven forbid I bought a dress...

Then I decided that the new clothes and my boobs deserved new bras.   Let me just say It’s a wonderful feeling to have boobs at boob level rather than waist level. My bra collection was looking pretty manky. Does anyone else hate bra shopping as much as I do? I just want to cry every time I have to do it. I see all these chicks pulling cute 12 B's and C's off the racks and just want to punch them. 14E/F just plain sucks.

I bought new makeup, earrings, hair doodads, handbags and shoes. I went a little nuts. Usually I think I'm rocking if I remember to get out of my pyjamas. This is not me at all..who the hell is this person who took over my brain?

Mr. P wonders where his wife has gone. He wants her back.

I'm stomping off to be crafty. This madness simply has to stop. Right after I moisturise and paint  my toenails.

P.S. I'm wearing that dress tonight. In honour of my MIL's birthday. Watch Mr. P's family keel over. Last time they saw me in a dress was when we got married.

P.P.S. Happy 18th birthday Nephew of Pyjamas. I swear if you let me and your Mum come out on the town with you tonight we wont cramp your style...

My Dad used to say that the only thing good about wisdom teeth is that they gave you the wisdom to pull them......

You won't see me buying bras (because the kid's undie section is usually on the other side of the shop)

But seriously, at the practically-boobless end of the spectrum, I have two choices. I can buy a kids trainer bra (I like the bonds ones, but they're $16 a pop - that's twice what I paid for a pair of RM Williams jeans last week) which are comfy and hold what little bits I have in place without being uncomfortable, of I can go with the hideously uncomfortable but hugely technologically advanced push up things that mean I suddenly have these... things in front of me, getting in the way of my arms all the time.

Boobs - you guys can keep em.

Ah yes, bra shopping......right up there with surgery for my least favourite activity......love the new clothing and the new look!

Your week sounds FABULOUS (aside from the dentist) What a makeover!
I hate bra shopping too. Big time.

I think that look in Mr. P's eyes is "Wow! She looks fabulous!"

I hate shopping of any kind, except books. I can spend all day in a bookstore. Five minutes in a clothing store and I'm all about leaving (and heading to the bookstore).

You're celebrating summer, the moving out of Miss P, the regaining of your quiet house, crafting uninterrupted, and oh, yeah, being a fab woman who's almost 40! Glad you decided to veer off in a glamorous direction. Feel good! I think Mr. P likes you glammed up, from that photo, LOL!

You look gorgeous. The new "do" is fabulous and I bet thats how you feel too. Nothing better than making yourself like a new woman, you go girl and enjoy everything.
You look stunning (again)

You look amazing! Mr. P can't keep his eyes off you. And let me just say holy shit, you have some cans, girl...E/F? I don't know what the 14 part translates to, but I think it means lucky you. Gotta support the girls!

PS - I think you did the perfect thing on your time off. If you don't do it now, when will you? You deserve your own upgrade/renovation. I like your new clothes...says she who is sitting here in two sweaters, fleece PJ pants, and it's minus something Fahrenheit outside.

Don't you look fabulous, I love the new hair, it's a really pretty colour.
Had to laugh at the bra shopping, as I have the same problem. Last time I lost heaps of weight as in three dress sizes and went to get new bras to match my oh so fabulous body and was told that my bra size was pretty much the same, I had only gone down one cup size, I pretty much wanted to punch the poor woman.
Lots of very nice purchases there, I think we need to see photos of you wearing the rest of them too!
Little P is growing up, what a cutey!

You're looking fab! Ace way to start the year off with a good old pampering. Bra shopping - only when absolutely necessary - one of my friends was collecting old bras for a charity last year, I donated two but put the word out to my friends and family - some of them brought binbags of them!! FULL BINBAGS!!!! I wouldn't wear that many bras in my lifetime.... how many more had they KEPT??? They must have a dedicated bra room to keep them all in.

Anyway lol...

Enjoy the party :0)

Good job - you look wonderful. And everyone needs to pamper themselves. I´m so glad you found cool clothes - wish I would. And Yes - bra shopping is justas bad as going to the dentist.
My week was aweful - glad you got so much out of your vacation time and still cannot wait to see the complete dining room.

Sounds like a great way to spend a holiday week. Sometimes you are just in the right mood and you find all the right things. Next time you won't find a thing you like so it's a good idea to get them when you can. Don't know about SA but up here the sales are huge - almost giving stuff away so a great time to buy and your purchases are lovely. I especially like the first top but they all look good to me.

All in all time well spent. You must be feelin' good 'cos you sure are lookin' good !
Cheers

When I saw the title of your post I was worried .. I thought maybe something had happened ...
you look great! I'm glad you could do something for you during your time off!

Enjoy your weekend!

Living is country SA, I'd love to know where you got the great tops and dress. We don't have a lot of shops locally so if they're in Adelaide can you mention them in your blog please?
Cheers

Your hair looks gorgeous! Love the colors. The only thing WORSE than bra shopping is bra wearing. My "girls" are huge and I have never, ever found a bra that fits correctly or is comfortable. I wear one only for work, going out or if company is coming by. When they can finally be seen (which doesn't look like will be too far in the future) peering out from the bottom of my shirt, I don't know what I will do!

Shay said...

Anne, I got everything at Crossroads. As Helsie pointed out they either have twelve things I love or nothing. They have a store online if you cant get to Adelaide. My folks live in the Riverland and I used to live in the South East so I hear you on the shopping thing!

You definitely deserve a pamper week after a wisdom tooth removal. I had one out last year and he told me to come back and get the other one out before I had a cavity and I am still putting it off! Bra shopping.....grrrr! Thanks to menopause my bra size is going up and up so I keep having to get new bras and I am finding that all the cute tops I used to wear now just look obscene or extremely booby. Still trying to find a style that suits me and my image of myself?? Thanks to the shingles I have been braless for weeks now, will have to get back to reality soon LOL PS Love your hair!

I have to say you look gorgeous Shay and Mr P thinks so too... He's giving you "those eyes" !!!!

Leanne said...

Thoroughly with you on the bra thing and I am in awe of you....... all that shopping and girly things are past me.

Anne said...

Thanks for that, I haven't come across Crossroads before. I actually live in the Riverland but it's a rare day to get to shop in Adelaide because we usually do a day trip for appointments and then husband doesn't really 'get' shopping!

Look at you, you gorgeous thing! :o) I love it all!

Okay...about the bra thing. I seriously thing we need a bra sew-along. Give it some thought. I think we can fit and sew our own. We just need some help from Anne St. Clair over at NeedleNook Fabrics (www.ndlnookfab.blogspot.com). She's the authority on bra sewing. And happens to hail from my hometown in Wichita, KS. :o)

PS...I can show you how to whip up matching panties in less than 15 minutes. Stretch lace, two seams, and a quick-stich liner. You'll never buy store-bought again. ;o)

Happy Saturday night! Hope it was a fun time with the nephew...if he let you tag-along.

Kate said...

Good for you! Great hair, great clothes, overall great look.

I only go bra shopping when it's absolutely necessary (meaing I'm down to just one that's wearable)!

Kirsten's Cooking said...

ummmm, judging by that picture, I don't think Mr P is thinking he wants his old wife back! :)

did you tag along with your nephew? You should have - I bet you would have gotten lots of free drinks!

Did you take a pic of yourself in the new dress? the hair looks fabulous!!!

I can't relate to the bra shopping - I am one of the annoying girls who can pick up anything in an "A" (to my husband's dismay) - and I don't mind the dentist, except the end, when I have to pay!

love the hair, love the lusty look on Mr P's face and love how adorable your grandson is - tell him to stop growing!!!

Bonnie said...

Mr. P looks smitten by the "new" you. It does feel so great when you have a successful shopping day. I have been putting off bra shopping for a while now but will have to give in soon. Right now at minus 36C I don't even plan to leave the house.

Ann Marie @ 16 Muddy Feet said...

First off I hate to go bra shopping as well, and when I do go and finally find one that fits after trying on about 100 of them, I buy a dozen so I am good for another year or so.

As for that look on your husbands face, I see just the opposite. He is very happy his wife he married is completely back and can't wait to turn out the lights! My husband agreed too.

Your looking great so do feel guilty. A girl has to do what a girl has to do sometimes.

You look HOT! I love love love that first top. If Nephew of Pyjamas doesn't let you go out with him, it's because he's afraid his friends will be hitting on his AUNTIE!

You must be feeling just sooooo good right now! Happy for you!

I am so with you on the bra shopping. I have gigantors and they are just completely pointless if you ask me. They are in the way all the time and they make my neck hurt! Someday, they are getting chopped off!

Char said...

I love the clothes you picked. You look great in the picture and I'm sure your husband will love the dress!

I know what you mean about the bras. I wear a 34G,which is a 12G to you. I can't find a bra for less than $70.00.
I used to spend that on my whole wardrobe!

Marie said...

love the cut & color !!! change is good ....

and the bra thing -- hate, hate, hate -- i get a favorite brand & style and it gets discontinued ...ugh ... and frankly, they aren't made to last and are way to expensive!!! after all it's only "an over the shoulder boulder holder!"...

Ruth said...

Hahaha--- that sounds like a lot of work!!! I've never been to the dentist (I brush obsessively so I don't have to... that's how scared I am!), but I am terrified of the hair salon (I've never gotten a good cut, so I cut my own and my fiance's hair...) and I HATE bra shopping, but it is a necessary evil. I'm 21 and shop in the granny section, walking past all the cute As and Bs with cupcakes and bird images... going straight for the granny nude DD. I wouldn't have prayed for these things in middle school if I had known the hardships and tears involved with bra shopping... :P And getting fitted is terrifying! I still haven't done it... but I think I'm wearing the right size. o.O

You look fab - love your hair!!! I'll bet Mr. P can't take his eyes off you!

Alisa said...

This is hilarious to me, only because I did the same thing last August after having my teeth fixed. Luckily, it has worn off and I have returned to my normal self.
I don't think Mr. P is even thinking about that other wife of his...he's looking at you like he likes this version just as well.

You look fabulous! LOVE the hair! And the new tops you got are so much fun! I'll be over in a few and we can paint our toenails together.

P.S. You will totally ROCK that dress {or maybe you already have. The time difference always throws me)!

I am sure Mr. P is happy with the new you!

Money well spent!

Glad your brain let you go play with fun stuff and the shops were obliging. You're right it is either all or nothing when it comes to buying clothes.

Love the new hair - enjoy.

Gorgeous items that you bought my dear, I see that you like black and white about as much as I do :)

And bra shopping, yeah... definitely NOT my thing...perhaps it's because after five kids, my boobs don't stay up on their own, so it's always an underwire, and then I almost always go with a mid-padding :) Even though I'm almost a complete B now..yes, it's true, I'm 38 and FINALLY growing some boobs :)
YES!!!

You look amazing. Good for you spending money on yourself. I need to do some of that myself but since I lost 15 pounds (not on purpose) anything I buy now won't fit in 6 months *sigh* I found a perfect store for bras. They even have an old fashioned fitter which is really helpful. She makes sure you get the best fit. They're relatively expensive but definately worth it.

seabreezequilts said...

Seriously need a new do but don't know what to do with the mop and am so hating the last colour I had, why did I let her put bleach on the streaks. Bra's is the least shopping experience I use to be a 16g/h now 14d/dd thanks to 3 hours of surgery probably 16d thanks to christmas. They were probably going to run out of alphabet if I had another child. So I am with you on the bra shopping and you have reminded me that I probably need to replace the ones I am wearing at the moment.

vawriter said...

Oh, Shay--you do look exquisite. If I ever complain again of how much a salon visit costs here, you have my permission to slap me.

As for bras, I HAVE been fitted recently, and it was a revelation. Also a very intimate brief relationship with a total stranger who felt free to reach into my bra and adjust The Girls herself. After the shock wore off, I realized that uplift can be achieved comfortable...and without wires! And I am supposed to wear a 42D, not a 38C, dammit.

Looking good there! No wonder you are doing Frugal Grocery month in February after that spree! But you know what, you probably deserve it.
