I spent last Sunday quilting despite the usual threatened distractions. (Whispering: I think I am addicted to the computer. I stop what Im doing every 15 minutes to run in here and see what you're all doing ) I started a quilt top the week before last from leftover Kashmir mainly because I was trying to ignore the pinwheel quilt. I am never working with pastels again.
Part of the quilting process involved trying to find backing for said quilt. I don't love pastels so of course I had nothing. But I couldn't buy anything because these are "the months of living frugally" until Mr. P finds work again. Then inspiration struck. I'm the queen of chenille. Just as a side note I bought some batting this year that I ultimately didn't like a lot and that stuff is just lasting FOREVER - whats up with that ? It feels like I've batted 43 quilts with it. I only bought enough for two queen sized quilts ...
Anyway "Kashmir 2 " is finished. I threw it in the washer and dryer and "crinkled "it. Now here's where it gets interesting. I love this quilt. And yet it's the same fabric as the pinwheel quilt which I think we all know I don't like.

Maybe you'll find the strength to finish the quilt which shall not be named before the end of the year, so you can go work some magic on a new project.
Well sounds like a virus to me...I keep running to my laptop every ten minutes or so...drives my hubby crazy..
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt...and especially your quilting, I asume you machine quiltes that...how can you do that without a milion wrinkles in the back or on the side...mine always looks so bad...I don't even want to try again..but handquilting takes forever...I assume I`m not making any quilts anymore..:-(
How 'bout you keep that beautiful quilt for yourself and finish your UFO as a gift - that way you have motivation to finish the other pastel masterpiece.
Did I catch it from you or did you catch it from me? My life revolves around going to the computer every 15 mins or so to check emails and blog posts. I was sad this evening as not much was happening, so thank you for posting, it made me feel much better.
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt, it is gorgeous. It's amazing how much better that fabric looks without the white, who knew that white would suck the life out of it. At least with the life sucked out of the quilt which shall not be named, it won't be able to take revenge. The chenille is perfect for the back too. I agree with Kirsten, you should keep this one and find a home for the other one.

ReplyDeleteI love this quilt! It's just so soft and pretty. I have some chenille and wondered if it could be used for a quilt backing. I'm may give big girl quilting a try now that I've seen yours. You just continue to produce the loveliest projects, Shay. Such an inspiration. :o)

I've set my computer up to chirp at me when anything happens. That way I don't get disappointed doing regular checks only to find nothing there.
ReplyDeleteI've just recently become a big fan of adding (off)white, but only with brights. I think it emphasizes any contrast but washes out any pastels.
Straight lines echoing the seams is one of my favourite quilting styles to do, both the process of it and the finished result. I've never used chenille though.

ReplyDeleteI also LOVE your quilt. And you did a stellar job with the quilting. It lays so flat and the chenille back is genius. I am normally not a pastels kinda gal and I am coveting this thing.
I think backing with chenille and minkee is always a fun solution when a backing is needed. It's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI also like the pastels and I know you don't want to talk about the pinwheel quilt but I've been thinking. Since it's an off-white, not white (which, btw, you probably woud have liked more) do you think colored, varigated thread in your quilting that works it's way through the quilt might help it?
Finally, I slowly work my paperpieced quilt blocks for SIL (1 hr for each block) and always jump up and browse blogs after each. I choose to believe it's not additiction, it's inspiration seeking. :D

ReplyDeleteLove the Kashmir 2 quilt! The chenille on the back was genius! But here's a question. Is that quilt top actually the back you were piecing for the back of the pinwheel quilt? And while we're discussing the pinwheel quilt (which I know you don't want to discuss, but I love and I think you should finish and then you can give it to MILofP and keep Kashmir 2 for yourself), slap some chenille on the back of it and quilt it in diagonal lines echoing the seams in the HST's. OK. That's enough of me being bossy from the other side of the world.

Thats lovely! i made a pastel quilt some time ago and didnt use white for the same reason, it was in the beach house fabric range, and i have loads left over! I think you should cut the front of the flour bags and use red and some fabric with written words- i have some, will try to send a photo to you.

It was a favorite postcard of a quilt laying over a chair. Very nice! Can't remember whose blog it was though. You all quilt!
