Slack Tea Thursday -Thanksgiving Edition

I thought about STT for tonight and realised that half of my readers are going to be running round with their hand up a  turkey and making pecan/pumpkin pies, which kind of makes a post about Vegemite on toast or chocolate sultanas for my tea ridiculously redundant.  I can't compete with turkey and snow and all sorts of other yummy-ness. I'm not even going to try.  

So instead of grossing you out with my truly slack meal tonight I'm going to take the opportunity to wish each and every one of you a Happy Thanksgiving. I hope your turkeys are delectable , your potatoes are exactly the way you like them, and that whatever else you decide to whip up it all  goes according to plan. Most of all I hope you enjoy time with the special people in your life.  

And you can just think of me sitting here eating a hunk of cheese while you do something special with cranberries and jello. (You're making Jello aren't you Annie?)

P.S. I actually dropped into the local chinese takeaway for dinner. Crispy skin chicken, fried rice and prawn cutlets aren't very Thanksgiving like....

    I actually did a Meatloaf (no, not the singer kind) tonight which said to bake in the oven which is why, of course, I shoved it into the bbq (well, it is a Webber!!) - not too shabby if I must say so myself! - have to as no one else was game to say ANYTHING!!

    So, whatchadoin (to use my son's delightful jargon) - renovating or sewing tonight???? ha ha

  3. Oh no! The local chinese? Which one? Not the one on GJ Rd near the Foodland? I hope not. 'Cause that is my favourite. Still haven't discovered a favourite over this side of town.

    Well, in the spirit of this post, I am thankful that we aren't celebrating a holiday today which would require a lot of cooking. I am especially thankful for vegemite and chocolate covered sultanas. (Well, actually BBQ'd porterhouse steak, salad and cheesey bread, which sounds pretty good, but was truly slack to cook. The hardest thing was cleaning the BBQ.)

  4. I didn't have my hand up a turkey, but I did give into my daughter and attempt to bake cookies and a cake last night (our assignment for dinner today is to bring desserts). My guy really, really likes to cook so he usaully takes care of that, but he doesn't do chocolate (he's allergic to it) and kiddo wanted something chocolate for dessert. The cake turned out OK, but the cookies, well lets just say I really need to wear my glasses when I'm baking!

  5. I had red rooster because it's just up the road from work.

    My favourite Asian place in Adelaide on Portrush Rd opposite the Granada Motel - the Bunside Food Wine and Noodle Bar - there's two nearly next to each other, it's the one closest to the entrance to Adelaide from the tunnel (so I don't have to go very far into Adelaide if I've driven up from the mount).

    Now I really want Satay chicken...

  6. yep, i just checked on "bigbird" in the oven .... next to follow is the sweet potatoes, green bean casserole and a wildrice hotdish. Then it's on to the salads --- pies are done!

  7. No hand up a turkey for me, but the pies are made...apple & pumpkin; and the cornbread casserole and broccoli casserole are being put together.

    Chinese sounds really good right about now. I'm thinking maybe that will be the plan for next year! LOL

One thanksgiving we went to my uncle's house in florida and we had salmon, green beans almondine and rice for thanksgiving dinner! who says you always have to have the traditional stuff....although that IS my preference!!! All my kiddos are home (or at least headed here) and you can smell our turkey cooking in the oven! Wish you could come share it with us - that would be a REAL treat! God bless you today!

Wednesday night I chopped a million veggies, made salad dressing, broccoli slaw, gingerbread, onion dip, moved furniture, oiled the table and leaf, sorted dishes and linens for 3 tables, decorated, cleaned, and collapsed into bed. This morning I made loads of cornbread stuffing, stuffed two turkeys and got them in the oven by 10:15, ironed linens, cleaned windows, set tables, basted the turkey hourly with butter, and plopped numerous items into serving bowls and onto platters. And that is just the part I did--I didn't list Grant's and the kids' tasks! We had a fantastic Thanksgiving feeding 17 folks. (DD Elaine made the jello!)
