It's Friday. Whooooooo hooooooo! Time for Favourite Things.
If you'd like to show off your Favourite Thing pop your link at the bottom of this post and be sure to try and visit the other people who linked to have a peek at their favourite things. I'll be scooting around checking out your blogs over the weekend from my parent's so be sure to link up. I don't want to miss anything!
I'm sure some of you will say"duh" when you read about my favourite thing this week. One of my favourite things is fabric. I finally spent every bit of my birthday cash this week. I'm busted. Tapped out. This is it for a while people.
I never thought I'd be one of those people that could spend hours looking at Fabric collections online, or eagerly await the release of new fabric.
I think we Fabric-o-philes look at a chunk of fabric and see approximately 100 possibilities. The thrill of what we might do with it is part of the obsession. Acquiring it and looking at it makes us happy. That why quilters have a fabric stash. So we can look at it, and dream about it and finally make something out of it. There's a challenge in taking a piece of fabric and turning it into something gorgeous. I bet the crochety and knitting people feel the same way about their wool.
Here's what I've learned about myself over the last year in relation to fabric. I'm an in your face quilter. If it's loud and bright I love it. This week's fabric purchases pretty much illustrate my point. All of these fabrics speak to me. I think we can safely say I'm a modern quilter.
Wild Thyme Fat Quarter Set by Carolyn Gavin
Fiesta Pretty Bird
I jumped on the Joel Dewberry Modern Meadow Bandwagon. Not really my "usual" fabrics but we'll see if I can make this work. I'm pretty sure I can make this look chaotic somehow.
More Moda Oz. I LOVE this stuff. This is destined to be a table runner.
Are you a fabric nut? What's your quilting style? What kind of fabric /craft thrills your heart?
I'm not a bold and bright fabric sort of person. I'm more subtle--maybe boring, but I love looking at all fabrics. I do love that modern meadow fabric collection.
ReplyDeleteI've never bought a jelly roll or layer cake, or any other "collection" product. Maybe I should try that sometime.
Wow, this is really getting scary. I have some of that Wild Thyme fabric and I've been eying the Fiesta Pretty Bird. I love the Pillow and Maxfield fabrics. I just got more fabric today, more Picnic Parade and a few others. Oh and some more thread, just in the nick of time! LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely with you in the bright fabrics category - I even have some of those you mentioned!
ReplyDeleteI do like to look at the possibility in fabric combinations and have my fabric stored in an open shelf so I get to look at it every day.
P.S. I don't think Mr. Linky likes me. I'm not sure my link worked.
ReplyDeleteHey Chica, nice chatting with you this morning! My internet hung on well for our talk and then promptly gave me fits all day. lol
ReplyDeleteAs for fabric, love your choices. I personally like brights when shopping but have found my tastes vary greatly when I start thinking about what quilt I want to do.
Have a great weekend.
I like the clear, bright and cool (read blue and green) colors. But I've used all colors of fabric in the different quilts I've made.
ReplyDeleteI could look at fabric for hours (ask my daughter, she hates quilt shops for that reason).
Love your fabric choices. Bold, bright, beautiful!
I love your fabric choices! Bold and bright and in your face suits me just fine. I need to fabric shop. You are doing some wonderful enabling here. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm with you big and bold is great, in your face kind of quilts though I sometimes have phases of different subtler combo's but bold will get my attention every time. I have thought of a favourite think and I might just go and organise it right now.
ReplyDeleteYeah, just like the fabrics you picked out, you're a little loud, but you're fun! These are all terrific, happy, modern prints. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWow I can see what you mean, those really are bright happy fabrics. I think you are right they reflect your personality and I bet they are BEAUTIFUL when you make them into quilts.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Helen
I love the brights as well, but as I've become more frabric addicted I have started enjoying colours I never thought I would, for example, I quite shocked at how much pink has snuck into my stash!
ReplyDeleteI've run out of steam this week and I am afraid the only thing Favourite about this Friday is that it is the last one in the school holidays!!!
ReplyDeleteGive me strength ;-)
Love all that fabric and yes us wool addicts feel the same way about our stash....I think I should just lock myself in the craft room and drool at my stash LOL!
I love your fabric choices too, I much prefer brights to muted, although you wouldn't know it from the last couple of quilts I have made. I have Pretty Bird too. although in the green blue colour way. I love the Wild Thyme, I think I might have to get some of that.
ReplyDeleteWhile I love to look at the bold and beautiful prints, I'm always too afraid to purchase them for fear whatever I make will be garish instead of great. :o) Fabulous Favorite Thing! How could you go wrong with fabric! LOL Happy Friday almost Saturday. Hope your weekend with your parents is fantastic! Larri at Seams Inspired
ReplyDeleteLove those bright, fresh fabrics. Such a great break from the more traditional ones, which I love just as much. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteThat first set is my favorite. I love all the fabric designs these days. Does that make me a modern wannabe quilter?
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting!
I used to be a more old-fashioned kind of fabric lover, well still am. But over the last two years some of the very colorful and wild fabrics have sneaked into my collection. I started out making pillowcases for the grandkids with them and it took off from there. Thanks for sharing. I'll probably end up with some Fiesta Pretty Bird!

I love fabric too. I love what you've picked. I think the Modern Meadow is my favorite, though. Such beautiful colors! My quilting style? You've seen my blog. I'm all over the map.

P.S. I'm totally using your FTF linky today. I'm a tool.
I see you over there, tempting me with luscious fabrics!!! Stop it! I am overflowing with projects!!! I am foolishly starting 3 more next week - taking classes as Quilt Festival!!
ReplyDeleteNope! Never figured with your personality on this blog that you would like brights! (LOL< right here)
ReplyDeleteYou need to think harder! This was an easy FFF...I thought of mine hard and long before I blogged.
We all LOVE fabrics dear girl!
Fabric! Love it! Love everything about it. I could relate to everything you wrote in your post, although my favorite fabrics are a bit tamer than yours. :-) That said, when I was eyeballing your latest acquisitions I couldn't help but wonder what they'd look like in one of my creations.
