Favourite Things Friday

It's Friday. Time to share your Favourite Things. I can see I'll have to pull my own socks up because some of you are so creative about what you share! I'm still thinking about copying Michelle's tool box idea (brilliant) and I made Kirsten's chocolate cake last weekend (delicious)

If you'd like to show off your Favourite Thing feel free to pop your link at the bottom of this post (That Mr. Linky is pretty awesome isn't he?) and be sure to try and visit the other people who linked to have a peek at their favourite things.

After two quite sentimental FTF posts about old things, I wanted to show you something not old and not sentimental this week. I even wrote the post and then remembered that I needed to write about my most  Favourite Thing ever  today  because it is a special day.  So settle back for more sugary sentimentality.

I first recall meeting Bourbon Boy  in 1993 at a football match.  It's ironic to me now that I can remember what he was wearing that day , since I wasn't interested in him at all. He wasn't Mr. P then. Not even close.   Bourbon Boy was a nice enough guy but not my cup of tea. In my opinion he had a lot of growing up to do. Over the years we re-met at various events and celebrations due to our mutual friends. And over that time he continued to have a  lot of growing up to do. Everyone loved Bourbon Boy  - he was the life of the party but he certainly wasn't partner material.  He didn't have a life plan. He lived in the moment. At times,  I could see a glimmer of the person he could be, but life was leading us  in different directions. So Bourbon Boy passed his time drinking bourbon and waiting to magically grow up and for the woman of his dreams to find him. I think at that stage the woman of his dreams would have been any woman  wearing sexy underwear , holding a pack of Winnie Blues and a 750 ml bottle of 100 proof   Jim Beam. In the meantime I went on with my life.

We met up again in 2000. Bourbon Boy  didn't look like he'd just crawled out of bed. He wasn't half plastered and reeking of bourbon. He could form whole words without slurring.  He could hold down a decent conversation that didn't include references to football and bourbon.  Bourbon Boy had done a lot of growing up and  I finally saw the man he had been working on becoming. And even though we lived 500 kilometres apart  the universe gave us a shove that day because we were both ready. Like a butterfly, Bourbon Boy became Mr. Reformed.  Thank you Universe.

Over the next 8 months there was lots  of commuting between his place and mine, (that 5 hour drive each way was bags of fun!)  many long phone calls daily and declarations of love. And after  a suitable time frame Miss-not-yet-Miss-P and I moved in with Mr. Reformed  and  Mr. Reformed popped the question in January 2003. We were married on New Years Eve 2004 after knowing each other for over 11 years. And that's how he became Mr. P. I was absolutely sure marrying Mr. P was the right thing to do and I still am.

I know you're supposed to say your husband is one of your favourite things. It's expected. But trust me , I know plenty of people who don't even like their husbands,  so I appreciate the fact that I have a husband who is very good at letting me be me and loves me unequivocally.  Mr. P is the most patient, kind person I have ever met. He never loses his cool. His intentions are always good. Everything he does  he does with me in mind. That man loves me and I love him. Together we can do anything.  I heard  once that love is a verb not an adjective. Mr. P shows me that every day. Words to describe how special my husband is seem woefully inadequate.

September 17th , 2000 - Love snuck up on me that day. Happy Anniversary Mr. P. I love you. You are my very favourite thing. Thanks for growing up. And universe, thanks for having the grand plan under control. You rock.

Well congratulations. You are one very lucky woman. Glad you have found the ONE and that you don't take your good fortune for granted.

OOOh that's so nice, think I even had a little tear in my eye. Lovely to have found the one.

seriously? How are we going to compete with that one? I love, love, love that picture of the two of you at the end!!
I think this is my favorite post of yours! I love when wives are crazy about their husbands (and vice versa) - it renews my faith in marriage - you are so right, a lot of marriages suffer from neglect and end in apathy.
Thank you so much for sharing this!

Oh good LORD! I know you are describing your favorite thing but don't you think you should be careful so you don't make us all fall a little bit in love with your man?

Okay, okay... let me spin this so it's not creepy.

you didn't make us fall in love with your man a little bit, you are making us fall in love with the man Mr. P is to and FOR you. Is that less "I'm going to fly across the ocean and you will have to lock me in the guest room for comfort" stalker-ish?

Maybe I should just stop reading your posts when I'm sentimental and have had 2 bottles of beer on a near empty stomach.

Mr. P, Mrs. P... you both rock.

Loved your post!!! And I must say, even though I'm sorry you're 'whooping', it is so nice that you keep posting so often! What a treat.

What a wonderful post. It makes me happy when partners adore one another. It's obvious that is the case with the two of you.

Many congratulations on your anniversary!

P.S.

Sorry about the double entry (again). I'm not really trying for a twofer. I just posted last week's entry by mistake.

Awwww.....that's too cute....lucky you (and Mr P)....I am a sucker for a good love story with a happy ending........funny as I read your description of Mr P it fitted my ex exactly...oh except the bit about everything he does with me in mind..LOL....I am sure he wasn't thinking about me when he took off with the newest love of his life...LOLOL - I still have faith in the universe though...I really believe there is a grand plan and it's pretty exciting thinking about what it might be! Hope the whooping is under control..You are awesome Mrs P!

Bourbon Boy cleans up real nice! I think it's wonderful that you can talk about Mr. P as your favorite thing. More women should be able to do that. And I think it's cool that, after all that time sort of knowing each other, you are now together. Definitely destiny!

Congratulations on your 10 year anniversary. I think that is wonderful, it is great to hear of two people that are so happy and really enjoy each other, it is so rare these days. What a lovely thing to share on FTF.
I too had a tear in my eye and I'm so glad you finally found THE one.
I love the pic of the two of you.

Beautiful!!! Congratulations to you both on 10 years :-)

Sometimes we have to wait until we are mature enough to handle the big commitment as well....Billy and I met late and we are celebrating our 10 yrs of marriage in Dec this year. He was a bit of a Bourbon Boy in his day as well and lucky for me he has matured and grown into a wonderful man. Aint love grand :-)

What a lovely "Favourite" you chose to write about this week! You are indeed a lucky, lucky lady to have such a wonderful man in your life. Did you show him this post? I bet he would let you buy all the fabric you wanted if you let him read this blog entry. :o)

Love, Love, Love this post! What a beautiful couple you are! And in a world where many marriages are made out of convenience, it is refreshing to see one held together by love and admiration. Congrats!

Oh blimey, soppy, but it made me feel soppy too! I'm little miss old maiden aunt (well maybe not the maiden bit) and the state of so many relationships I see around me makes me think I'm not missing anything!
Then you went and posted that and yes, I am missing something! Damn you woman for pointing it out!

Ok Mr. P has a completely swelled head now ladies...he keeps dancing round the house singing "I am fabulous" . I'll have to write a post as some point soon about his many faults to balance this one out and bring him down to earth...his singing is pretty awful for a start.

Kris said...

Well done Mrs P. Butter him up and he'll never dis your on-line shopping! Good thinking. And if you can just live through the big-headed dancing around the roomness you'll be able to shop till you drop!

Nice one.
