A Fast Finish

Some days you just want to create something that you can finish fast. Since I have so many long term projects on the go - the kitchen, snowball quilt, circle quilt, stripping kitchen chairs and tables for example ,this weekend I felt the need to do something that I could finish before the end of the weekend. Just so I could have that "I am so totally wonderful because I sorta finished something" feeling.

So , with the house to myself (theoretically no interruptions..........whoooooooo hoooooooo) I set out to create something I could finish. Many interruptions later ( I forgot about the phone) I came up with this.

The fabric  is Love U by Deb Strain for Moda.  I just took one look at this happy fabric and knew Little P wanted me to buy it to make his 1st birthday quilt. Now it just needs to be basted. I'm going to give spray basting a crack for the first time EVER - I'm just waiting for the quilt police to arrive to arrest me.

And yes I did just finish his actual birth quilt (you can't rush genius apparently)  so I'm trying to be organised for his 1st birthday.

And the best part about all of this is that since I bought a layer cake and a jelly roll, I have enough Love U  fabric left over to make one of these for a little girl as well.  If I knew anyone with a girl- which I don't . So I suppose this fabric will end up in my stash for a while.

P.S. The quilt top is not as warpy as it looks..it's on my unmade lumpy bed.

  1. Loving the quilt dear girl. What an achievement for a weekend and sometimes you do need to achieve something finished. I was thinking of your "slack tea Thursday" the other day and I think I have one for you- I did the groceries, bought 2x boxes of "treat style" chocolate icecreams for DD girls night, then sat down and preceeded to eat 3 of them for tea as I was home alone. God, now that is just plan lazy (and slack).

Glad someone else takes photos without a care for the undone housework!

  5. Aww. Little P will love it! The fabrics are so bright and cheery and childlike. He'll probably drag it everywhere until it's tattered and torn and shows the love, but that's the whole point, right?

  7. Such a gorgeous, happy quilt. I LOVE your fabric choices.

As for spray basting, I've had good luck with it. And no quilt police came by and arrested me. :-)

  8. Very cute for a 1 year old--sure to be the source of many cuddles and snuggles. My sister has used spray basting for years and loves it. She usually makes smaller size projects and I think that is the key. I'd be greatly afeared to try it on a queen sized project. Her only caveat is that it is messy to spray indoors and SMELLS.

Glad you got some sewing time in :) When is Little P's big day?

  9. Great quilt made with love from a great grandmother. I think you should make a quilt for a girl also. Who knows!! I told The Baby that I was going to start making things for a grandbaby since I will probably be 90 by the time she has one! Glad you were able to get some quilty time.

  10. I love Deb Strain. Her prints are always so charming. And so is this quilt top. I love simple pieces. Good for you getting that done so quick!

  12. Spray basting is the best! (And the quilt police are a bit like Cheap Trick's "Dream Police" - they live inside of your head! Either that or they are so busy basting their quilts traditionally that they have no time to come to your house lol!)

  13. Thank you everyone for your lovely comments. It was while I was sewing this quilt over the weekend that I realised I've never made a quilt without a clear idea of it's use or who would receive it. I think it would be fun to make the little girl quilt up sometime to give to someone random down the track.

The finished size of the top is 54 x 63 inches. Little P's birthday is July 21st. A year already! Cynthia be careful what you wish for. I was a very early grandparent since I'm only 29.

And I'll let you all know how the spray basting goes!
