Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.................

Dropped my sewing machine in for it's 6 yearly service today and was told it would be on holiday for at least two weeks. The "at least " part was enunciated clearly as if to imply it could be longer.

I'm going to go crazy.

What am I going to do with myself for two weeks or more?

  1. practice baking cakes and just so you don't eat them all, plan on taking them to neighbors and friends "just because". They'll love you for it now that we know baking is no longer a disaster for you. :)

  2. Oh I hear your pain on this one. Here you can actually rent a machine while yours is in the shop.

Or maybe you could just take a lot of naps!

  3. My solution was to have multiple machines, which quickly became a collection, which quilckly took over my sewing space. Moral of the story is, don't let a plausible rationalization turn you into a collecting fanatic. But, a small second machine is handy to have around. Lane

  4. Me, too-- I've got a 1919 Domestic treadle, a 1972 Singer touch and sew in perfect, refurbished condition and a new Janome 1600 DBX. If one is out, I've got the other ones. If I could find a Singer Featherweight, I'd get one for taking to classes.

However, I love the first suggestion of baking and visiting. If I wasn't having to be a work all day, that sounds really fun.

  5. An inexpensive, second machine is the answer! I have a small, lightweight Janome that I take to my bee each week. It is also a great back up machine. I can't quilt with it - only piecing, but it's great!

  6. What a terrible thing, I feel your pain! These next two weeks may just be the longest in your life. Wish we lived closer, I'd share! =)

P.S. maybe we could work a deal with every other day or so, I think I might go crazy without mine!

  7. Are you sure you couldn't have a holiday yourself somewhere that has a sewing machine preferably? Last time I had my machine serviced I took it the day before I left for a vacation and picked it up two days after I got back.
Hope you find something to fill in all that time you could have been sewing.

  8. Day 1- My hands are shaky, I have a headache and I feel like I need a hit ...bad....I need a sewing session. I got new fabric yesterday and this is killing me.

I do have a second machine. It belonged to my Nanna and I'm probably going to have to bite the bullet , get it out of storage and work out how it works. I'm not going to survive two weeks otherwise.

  9. Oh and Beck ...I put togther the rest of that layer cake this past weekend and it was an utter disaster. My cooking mojo is shot. The universe has decreed I've had my one baking success for 2010 and from here on in , I deserve no more.

  10. We have to send our XBox 360 in for repairs, and it will be gone for 2-3 weeks. I'll be tortured with you...

  11. Okay Leslie, desperate times call for desperate measures. Pick a book, tell me what it is and we can co-read and blog about it together.

I'm going nutty here, and I have a weekend coming up.

  12. hahaha... maybe you could knit underwear for the homeless while your machine is getting serviced??? I always have HAND sewing when i drop my machine in for its 10 yearly service, or when it goes 'clunkety clunk clunk'

  13. You could "try" some cute embroidery. How about getting some of those Aunt Martha's iron on transfer patterns and embellish up some tea towels. Or learn to knit or crochet, or blog more? I feel your pain though. Maybe that's why I haven't taken my machine in, also because it costs money. Also, sorry to ramble here, but someday I'm going to open a sewing lounge where one can come and rent a machine in the studio. That would be perfect for you! Maybe there is one of those in your area! Good luck with Nanna's machine.

  14. Oh, you could also come over to my blog and answer the silly questions about sewing in the comments. Just for fun.
